This is a map script that received a lot of early acclaim. I wanted to see how it stacked up to other maps on a rating system.
Theme: Very nicely done. The map has a lot of road type terrains and rubble representing remnants of an older civilazation. My only concerns have to do with how the script was executed. With so much road terrain, it appears that some of the resources do not place properly. Several maps viewed had less than scripted amounts of gold and stone, presumably because they will not place on these terrains. Also, the script has a major drawback in that the eye candy is placed first, and the more important elements later. The profusion of mountains make a problem with resource placement too.
Visual Appeal: This map has lots of eyecandy; in fact after looking at the script for a while I began to tire of it. Still, it is a well thought out and well done appearance to the map. The geography of the varying shorelines and connections look very realistic.
Playability: The missing resources hamper the playability to the map, as does the mountains engulfing the starting TCs and berries. Some players get worse starting setups with the ability to only place a few farms around their TC, while others might fit 5 or 6 because the mountains were not as close on 3 sides. Some players might not be able to place more than one farm by their mill placed near berries because of crowding of mountains. All players should have starting positions as equal as possible. Other resources are pretty standard. The single extra starting archer is not a hindrance to good gameplay. This map's bad points prevent it from getting a better score in this area, perhaps it should have even been given a 2 here. If the mountains had been spaced well away from around the player start areas, I would call this a pretty good map.
