The Deadening: Shore of Echoes
At a time when economic prosperity was at a high and new lands were being discovered, a horrible plague sprang forth. No one seemed to know where the disease originated, but it was certain, "The Deadening" (as it was commonly known as) was a destructive force that could not be stopped. Everyone and everything alive was being affected. From Europe to the Middle East to Asia, man and beast alike were falling prey to The Deadening. Whole cities were reduced to a mix of decaying bodies and weeds. It seems that weeds and diseased grass are the ONLY things to grow in these dead regions.
Everywhere was effected, except the newly discovered Americas. Tucked deep in the forests of South and Central America are Aztec and Mayan towns that have not been seen by outside civilizations. Everything was as it should be. Trading, hunting and farming was at an all time high, everything was normal... that is until a small Aztec village was stricken with "The Deadening".
The Deadening: Shore of Echoes is a 3 minute cut scene that explains the story in a little more depth. The full "The Deadening: Soil of the Scorned" campaign will be released shortly.

I've heard about "The Deadening: Soil of the Scorned" for a while now, and I must say that I was very impressed with this teaser.
I think people should definitely take a moment of their time and give it a try because they wont' regret downloading this great teaser.

The Deadening: Soil of the Scorned is one of the most impressive cutscene scenarios in the Blacksmith. It explains the plot of the story and is totally bug free. Also, there were some pretty creative things in there.
The playability was good, since it's pretty fun to watch the neat things Inquizative did to make the scenes of each continent like he described it. There was just one problem, it showed the goddess as a villager... which is bad in my opinion.
Because this is a cutscene scenario, I can't really give a score on the balance. So, it will be the same score as playability.
This scenario was very creative. The talking to a goddess on the water trick is good (although walking on water has been used before many times) and so is the eye-candy tricks used to make a drought and a scene of poverty.
The map design is good, although not packed with eyecandy. Because most of the map (the map represents a tortured world) is supposed to be in drought, eyecandies such as flowers would make it look unrealistic. However, Inquizative knew that and avoided putting eyecandies in areas of drought and desert.
The story was a little bleak. You are told that you are some sort of messiah and you need to save the world and that the world is being tormented, but little else is discussed (like how the world became tormented). So, a 4 will be given.
+ Points
- Very creative
- Excellent map design
- Points
- story is a little bleak
Final Thoughts: Well, I am not surprised that Inq did such a good job since he was the winner of the ES "Make Texas Beautiful" contest and is one of the greatest scenario designers alive. So great job Inq! |

I wonder why I never posted before. As short as this was, this little teaser was mightily enjoyable to watch. I liked the characters, the story, however obscure, and the atmosphere. Very good work. If only you came back to finish it... |

I regret never completing "The Deadening". I was almost finished with the 7 scenario campaign and I lost my hardrive TWICE. I never had the heart nor patience to start it over a 3rd time :( Thanks for the comments... |
