The Battle of Evermore is an excellent campaign and is definitely one of the better ones I have seen. Although weak in some areas, it is still very good and deserves recommendation to all.
The playability was a bit weak. I found several in game "cheats" that the author put in to help you out. For example, when you face the elephant at the bridge to Evermore, you don't really need any weapons, just hit and then run.
The balance wasn't really that good, due to the fact that both your heroes are ranged units and can heal and that the enemy lacks severely in ranged units, you can kill enemy units before they even get close. Also, if you can acquire some weapons, the game is made even easier as the power of these weapons make killing enemies very easy (and I don't believe in having one boss at the end have anything to do with balance but more with playability).
The creativity was excellent. The concept of having different weapons is a new one in AOK (I think) and although I could imagine how it can be done, I find it to be difficult to carry it out. Also, the "sectional" concept where your access to the first half of the map is removed after you reach the 2nd part, is quite interesting.
The map design was excellent but in the dead forest was entirely made of trees from the units list, which means that the entire terrain is either leaves or grass and it looks really bad on the mini-map (like a large grass plain). However, it still looks fine on the main map and it must've took him some time to put all those trees down manually. So, I give him the credit and a full 5.
The story and the instructions were both fine, with one tiny little mishap. It did not tell me just what the places with items look like. In the first time I played, I didn't find one lousy item and I had to ask the author. He then told me that broken carts represent items, and I said: "oh!". Unfortunately, the items are a big thing in the scenario and since the lack of information prevented me from acquiring them, I have to deduct some marks.

Final Thoughts: Overall, this is an excellent scenario and you should definitely consider downloading it. I hope that the author will make a sequel to this, since I am very impressed by his work.
Good job! Except one thing, sometimes when I tried to save, or open a saved file of this it would crash, im guessing because of the music. One thing I didnt get though, when I got the players top weapon, I went back to get the woodsman axe and it still added damage to my weapon. Oh well, good campaign anyways.
The Battle of Evermore is Fun, exciting, and challenging this scenario is truly awesome.
This is a scenario that no RPG/RPS fans will want to miss.
"The Battle of Evermore" is a solid RPS overall, but certain areas of this campaign could have used some extra work.
The playability is above average for the most part. The game starts on the right track, but as the game progresses the playability declines and we lose a bit of interest. More instructions about the important tasks would have really helped the playability.
Like Stan mentioned in his review, the heroes can heal themselves and this tend to make the game too easy. In addition, the upgrades will turn the tide in your favor and the enemies will even feel weaker. Keeping the balance in mind, the game is still enjoyable to play.
Bon was very creative and he made a good use of the tools he had. The results really pays off, so everyone interested in learning how to be creative should definitely pay some special attention to this campaign.
The map design was well designed with plenty of details. I think a score of 5.0 would have been good but unfortunately as the game goes on the quality of the map isn't as nice. The Bamboo forest comes to mind. I think if the author had added more variety the map design could have been something to remember.
The story line was strong and worthy of an RPS. The heroes are also interesting and everything seems to go on smoothly. My only complain in this area is the instructions. Vital information should have been far more emphasized because not knowing what to do can be frustrating.
Overall, "The Battle of Evermore" has its weakness, but it is still one of my top pick when it comes to RPS, so give it a try and you might just be surprised by this great campaign.
