The MFO@Mapster team announces the release of another random map script, MFO@Random_No_Isles. While our heroes at Ensemble Studios created some great and interesting scripts, including the base idea for this script, Random Map, playing the same map can become very repetitive. Our new script tries to overcome this problem by introducing a set of 20 randomly selected terrain patterns for the basic Random Map script. However, this script differs from Random Map in that Black Forest is missing (by popular demand) and the 4 island type maps (Archipelago, Islands, Migration, and Team Islands) are also removed. The other basic maps have not been changed. For each of the 20 terrain patterns, there are preselected base terrains, primary and secondary forests, various terrain patches and appropriate animals.
So how does this script change gameplay? Not at all. The pattern of land and forest and cliffs and resource distribution is exactly like in each of the basic scripts.
The random chances of the many terrains appearing:
5/20 terrain types have primary forest as Oak Forest
5/20 terrain types have primary forest as Jungle
5/20 terrain types have primary forest as Pine Forest
2/20 terrain types have primary forest as Palm Desert
2/20 terrain types have primary forest as Bamboo
1/20 terrain types have primary forest as Snow Forest
There are various combinations of secondary forests, green grass or brown dirt or desert terrains. Five patterns use each of jaguars, turkeys, macaws and javelinas, though not all are together. Only one of the 20 patterns has snow as the main or base terrain, and one other has a limited amount of snow and snow forest similar to the standard Mongolia map.
For those who are interested in scripting details, this script also introduces a very different and efficient method of defining and selecting these terrain patterns and in creating the associated unique fauna and trees. Download the script and check it out!

We have made similar versions of Random Map and of Random Land Map, plus versions of the individual component maps of these scripts. See the download listing for these.
