Doomstown
by Enrique Orduno for Scn Punk

Explore the abandonned town as you fight for survival in doomstown. You and your opponents will have a hard-time living in the old ruined city. You might find some forgotten horses or wild horses in your exploration, but beware of the other civilisations who try to survive in that hostile town.

Doomstown is a road based map where the ground is mostly covered with roads, dead grass and dirt. Some small patches of forest can be found on the map and a lot of deers can be easily found. But, the most important feature of Doomstown is the middle of the map, filled with stone, gold, berries and the relics, it is a good place to move to even if the wood is on the edges of the map. You will encounter many horses and wild horses during the game as well as ruins, roman ruins, skeletons, signs, shipwrecks on the coasts of the many small lakes, birds and much much more.

This is a map and an idea with quite a bit of promise, but I just feel it hasn't lived up to its full potential in a few places.

Theme: The general idea of the map is a good one, a fight for resources in the center can be exciting. The implementation of the map, though, just doesn't quite pull through. The resources are a bit too plentiful in the center to create the real kind of desperate struggle that I think Enrique Orduno was going for.

Visual Appeal: The current layout of the map didn't really do much for me. The large amounts of roads in the play land are uninterrupted, and the ponds often encroach dangerously into the player areas. Plus, the sections of pine forest that were supposed to be placed fell quite short.

Playability: The main reason I mark this at lower than ES level playability is the set number of villagers. If you end up with Mayans or Chinese, your cultural advantage is yanked away by a set number of villagers, and you don't get your food back, potentially killing the early game. The variable number of relics with no prior warning also didn't appeal entirely to me.

In addition to this, I like to point out that usually one computer player on an 8 player set-up would refuse to play. This map and idea really does have some promise, and with a few simple changes could make for a great map.
