Promontories is the latest random map script from the MFO@Mapster team. This geographically unique map script has the players starting out on exposed peninsulas that jut out into a central sea. There can be pretty wild land or sea action and a couple different strategy options. You can do a boat boom cause the fishing is great, but vulnerable to a GUSH. The starting positions are also a little vulnerable to sea attack, and a good flush could completely block off land escape by guarding across the enemy's peninsula. Resources are pretty standard, with an over-abundance of fish! Forests on the starting peninsulas are small to prevent overcrowding there, but there is plenty of forest on the mainland of the map.
A strategy that is sometimes effective to counter a GUSH until you can counterattack is to concentrate fishing in the water channels between yourself and an ally, with a tower or two on each side of the channel to counter warships.
Crowding players onto a too-small sized map can really mess this up, because there must not only be enough room for the players bases, but also for even sized channels between them. It looks and works best played on a map size appropriate to the number of players. One vs one doesn't always give much of a peninsula, but it is still a great map to play!
