This map script has some promise but is lacking in a few areas that make gameplay difficult.
THEME: 3 This is the hardest area for me to judge - the author tried to make a map with different gameplay, and I give him credit for that. However, there were many things that could have been scripted differently to allow better use of the available land. Unfortunately there is not nearly enough usable forest. The starting isles are small with starting forests. However for naval action you need much more forest, and the forests on other islands are frequently not usable - the forest covers the entire small island with no way to put down even a lumber camp. Placing small patches of a different terrain first on the extra islands would allow some small area to build the needed lumber camp.
Visual Appeal: 3 Nothing special here - some varying water terrains, but inadequate use of patches on land to create space for building on the extra islands.
Playability: 2 Problems with inadequate wood resources for a drawn out game, and problems with inadequate mineral resources (none on starting isles, all gold clustered on 2 islands, all stone clustered on 2 other islands). These exra resource islands can be placed quite unfairly, and in larger games with more people, there is grossly inadequate access for all players to get gold and stone. I appreciate the idea to make a different style of play, but there needs to be a little better distribution of these resources and more resource islands on larger maps for more players. Fish resources could be beefed up a little, also.
Also, the author makes no mention of this, but the standard AI cannot play this at all since it will not ever expand off the starting island. In a couple test games it never even made a dock.
With improvements, this map could be quite interesting to play.
