Central Sea-Relics

Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Central Sea-Relics by RF_Gandalf

This is a new random map script which contains elements of the ES Hallowed map together with a map I created for MFO@Mapster called Central Sea. Central Sea is a random map script that is a kind of hybrid between Highland and Baltic or Mediterranean, but with some differences. First, the sea is slightly smaller than either of these water maps, giving more room for land buildup and battles. Second, the players are arranged by teams and the teams are separated by rivers flowing into the sea. There are shallows crossings over these rivers similar to the Highland map. This new map script combines this interesting land and water mix with some of the starting features of the ES@Hallowed map. Each player starts with a Monastary and two Monks (rather than 3 as in Hallowed- with 3 Monks per player I find that the relics are collected too quickly and the Monks are used early as an offensive weapon), and there are 10 relics per player scattered across the map. Economic development is quite different with these changes, as the early gold generated by your stored relics can be used to buy food and advance much more rapidly once a Market is built. There is generally more use of Monks and other gold-intensive units with this type of map.

The geography gives the possibility of a defensive style of play on land by walling the crossings, allowing some of the slower civs to be considered for use on this map. Walling the crossings may prevent the enemy from getting to the relics on your side of the map!

The resources are normal but with a richer supply of fish in the sea than on the standard ES maps. There are 18 different terrain patterns randomly chosen, and these do not include any snow.

The best civs for this map are different than the standard Huns and Mongols, as these civs have poor Monks (fine for collecting relics but of little other value). The Aztecs may be best on this map with their high hit-point Monks, but other civs with strong Monks are good too.

Several other \'Relic\' maps are being released - check the game sites for other fun maps to play!!
