I was asked by the author to do a review of this new RMS. This random map script has a few flaws that detract from gameplay, and shows evidence of little play-testing.

THEME: (2)

UNIQUENESS: The author tries to give the feel for the South Pacific, and presents a tropical looking locale.

RANDOMIZATION OF MAP (if applicable): The map looks different at different sizes, with no water showing up in 5 tries on a 1v1 tiny map size. As the size of the map increases, there is more water. The maps show varied connections between players and very uneven water placement, which is not advertised, and sometimes leads to uneven resource placement and access.

RANDOMIZATION of TERRAIN PATTERNS (if applicable): N.A.

WRITE UP: Little description given

The lack of even resource placement, lack of water on the tiny map size, the impenetrable ring of trees around each player on a 1v1 tiny map game show poor testing of the map.

VISUAL APPEAL: (3)

REALISM: Map does not look bad, some nice touches with terrains. Occasionally I saw squared off land forms in the water, but I think this was with trying to crowd players into a smaller map size.

BLENDING OF TERRAINS: Adequate.

EYE CANDY: OK - perhaps a little heavy on rocks but not to the point of detracting from the map.

PLAYABILITY: (2)

UNIQUE GAMEPLAY FEATURES: N.A.

RESOURCES: Water access and therefore fishing not always fairly placed. Fish sometimes apperar clumped in one body of water and missing in others. Less gold than standard map on smaller map sizes as the author moved the third 'player gold' to over 120 tiles from start area.

MAP SIZE SCREWS: As described above, no water and solid ring of trees around each player's base on a 1v1 tiny map.

AI: The AI plays this map OK except in the 1v1 tiny map where each player generally starts with a ring of forest around his base with no break in it, and on maps where the AI starts out on an island separated from enemy.

SCRIPTING FLAWS: Couple of places where the author left in misplaced 'else' and 'endif' words that were clearly errors, probably not significantly affecting script though.

SPECIAL POINTS: none

SUMMARY: More testing needed to debug this script.
