Gandalf's Team Highlands is a new map derived from the standard Highland map and is one of the favorite maps for my friends and family to play. On the standard Highland map there are random variations in the starting player positions which affects fairness at times. On Team Highlands the team setup is always used - all team members start on the same land section separated by water from all other teams; the teams are connected by shallows or ice in the usual manner. There will never be a setup where team mates are separated or where enemies are on the same land mass. Aside from this change in setup, the other significant change is in forest - there is slightly less forest on this version to help eliminate the occasional resource dropping that can occur on Highland due to crowding by forest.
Resources are standard for the Highland map, except that there is a small increase in the amount of shorefish and off-shore fish to provide another resource to exploit.
The other changes in this map are merely cosmetic in nature. As with many of my maps, there is a variety of terrain possibilities for your enjoyment. The standard Team Highlands map includes selected patterns that include all possible terrains in AOK, with corresponding forest and fauna. Because some players prefer to play on an all green map (LCD screens and some poorer quality monitors give problems with locating some resources against brown terrain background on the minimap, and some do not like the snow), I have included also a 'green' version (Team Highlands-G), which has also some forest and appropriate resource variability. I have also included a clan/family favorite variation, a 'Relics' map(Team Highlands-R), where each player starts with a monastery and a single monk, and there are 10 relics per player. This version allows for a very rapid economic advancement with many relics contributing gold from an early age, and is lots of fun for a change of pace.
The standard computer player AI plays this map as well as it does the standard Highland map.
