This is a 12-episode campaign for Age Of Empires 2: The Age Of Kings, by Ensemble Studios. In this campaign you control the rise or fall of the Viking empire throughout the rich history of the Viking people. The missions are:

THE DANEMARK!
Ancient Denmark lies ripe for Viking conquest, but first the Vikings must find the Island of the Mystics to obtain amazing new weapons.

The Viking empire controls what would later become Norway, Sweden and Denmark. It's time to raid and plunder the rest of Europe!

RAIDING 2 - BRITAIN
AND the British Isles, as well!

NORMANDY
No longer content with raiding, the Vikings launch a full-scale take-over of north-western France.

YORKSHIRE
The British city of York feels the hammer of the Viking.

THE NEW WORLD
Vinland! Can the Vikings discover a New World far, far to the west? Britain and Ireland stand in the way!

PEER OF THE REALM
The Viking colonies in England have thrived for a long time, and England is tired of fighting. If the Vikings can tribute massive amounts of gold very quickly, the crown is willing to incorporate the colonies into the British Empire. The choice is expulsion from the islands...

“The Lion of Sweden” is interesting campaign and it’s obvious that a lot of work went into this campaign. After finishing this campaign I must say that the author has what it takes to make quality campaign and that all he needs is to focus on quality rather than quantity.

First of all, the playability in this scenario was average. Out of the 12 campaign I really can’t say that I found anything new or ground breaking. The sad part here is that most of the gameplay felt like a re make of ES campaign. Also, some of the quests lack a bit of excitement. For instance, collecting X amount of resources or collecting relics just isn’t fun anymore.

The balance was all right, but I must say that from scenario to scenario the balance was sometimes different. The balance is definitely on the easy side and most gamers should be able to complete this long campaign. In fact, the length of the campaign is probably the hardest part of this game.

The creativity wasn’t good at all for the early scenarios but toward the end the author did a better job with a better use of triggers which can be reflected in scenarios like the one where we conquer Normandy.

The map average as nothing is really better than a random map. In fact, some of the maps felt like came straight from a random map. However, I will give credit to the author in designing maps which resemble real life maps such as Scandinavia, Britain, and so on.

The instructions were sufficient and there weren’t too many grammar mistakes. The storyline was well written at the presentation of each scenario but during the actual game there wasn’t any major twist in the plot or anything to make it more interesting.

In the end, this is a descent campaign even though it was very long. I will recommend a download especially to the fans of Vikings.
