You need an upgrade from your starting town. Then you need a fast reaction, if you are slow use the ‘pause’ button. The moment you see the first bandit shoot, two should attack Robin. If not you were too slow, reload a save game. When two attack Robin, ignore them, shoot one who attacks Will first, your objective is to save him. IMO the bandit quest is probably the best balanced scene of AoK history. |

@ Tanneur:
"The map is one of the two best designs of a desert region at the blacksmith. To be realistic, desert maps are sparse with eye candy and Gaia objects. It is impossible to design an accurate map on a smaller map size with three towns and two cities, Jaffa, Caesarea, Caiphas (Haifa) and Acre on the Mediterranean Sea and Jerusalem in the East. The city of Jerusalem is big as it represents the ancient 12th century one with all gates, churches etc in the right places."
everything you said here may well be true for all I know, but I don't understand why anyone should (or would) care about this when playing the game, or even when evaluating it. I don't care if a certain church is in the right position or not, (it probably isn't anyway, and it certainly isn't depicted the way it really looked like, etc), all I care is to be entertained by it. It's a game, that's its purpose. And when you need to walk for minutes on end without seeing a single thing worth your attention (eye candy is not sparse, it's non-existant on that map), you start wondering if the so-called accuracy is worth it. and talking about accuracy...is it accurate for Robin Hood to go on such a long journey through the never ending desert alone? is it accurate for Richard to not give him any escort? is it accurate for will scarlett to be in the middle of the desert with his wife waiting for some bandits to kill him? if accuracy is what this game aimed for it certainly failed miserably from the first minutes.
and so we arrive at the will scarlet problem..
"You have to be fast, when you see the first enemy unit, shoot. Two soldiers should attack Robin, if one or none attacks Robin, you were too slow, reload."
and this was so blatantly obvious that it didn't deserve even an in-game hint? not the exact instruction, mind you. just a small hint on what everybody who played this game did wrong the first time they tried.
your words on what most people here have referred to as a genuine game problem is "the best balanced scene of AoK history". I'm sorry but this statement is beyond me. Granted, the scene is not extra hard, it's kind of easy if you pause the game. But does that make it well balanced? or enjoyable? or does that somehow make up for the frustration of reloading the game time and time again?don't think so. IMHO it is by far one of the most overrated games here.

Playability: 4
Out of the many Robin Hood scenarios and campaigns; The Adventures of Robin Hood by Gregory Koteles is one of the best. It is very fun and enjoyable and I could play on it for hours. It is a scenario you could play again. The only problem is that there is a huge amount of walking involved and that makes the game become boring. If there is less walking involved the score would be a 5
Balance: 4
Another problem I found with the campaign was the balance. I found the game very hard on Moderate. You only have a small number of soldiers who don't have very good abilities, but the enemy gets a large number of very good soldiers. If the game is made a bit easier I would give a score of 5
Creativity: 5
This is creative campaign. Although there have been many Robin hood scenarios./campaigns this is by far one of the most creative. It features legendary heroes like Saladin, Will Scarlett and of course Robin Hood himself. There is a good map design and a great Story. There are many great Trigger Tricks too. Each trigger is set in a way which make the game much more fun.
Map Design: 4
The map design is very good. The cities are especially well designed and are the best bits. The buildings are spaced out well and make the cities look realistic. As for the countryside, it looks too fake and artificial. It needs more terrain mixing, elevation, cliffs and eye-candy. The use of GAIA objects did improve the scenario a bit more though. The maps are also too large and mean there is a lot a walking to get to different parts of the scenario.
Story/Instructions: 5
The story in the campaign is great. It tells the legend really well and makes the game very enjoyable. It includes all of the Robin Hood heroes as well. Without the story this campaign would be very very boring. The Instructions are clear and easy to understand.. If you do get stuck all you have to do is look at the helpful Hints page.
Additional Comments:
If you like Robin hood then this is a must Download.

i know i'm a bit late to be playing and asking questions about this campaign (which i think is pretty good, though could have some more action for such huge maps, especially in the first scenario) but i've got this problem in the second scenario that i can't overcome. when Robin&co meets Little John by the bridge and he takes them to the 'heart of Sherwood', I follow Little John to that hiding place, but then nothing happens: the objective doesn't get fulfilled, and John doesn't say a thing no matter how many times i click on him. it's probably a problem with the triggers - though it's my ignorant guess - but what could i have done wrong? and how can i solve this? thanks in advance. |

You need to keep in mind that this campaign was made in AoK and a long time ago. The first two reviews are old and the method of reviewing back then was different.
In addition, comparing this to the standards of today, it would not get a high 4+ rating. Er, at least it wouldn't get that from me. I tried it for 20 minutes, didn't like the uneventful huge distances I was travelling. The map design was bland as well. But who knows, I didn't get too far into it, maybe it gets better. I won't be playing this again though. Lastly, this is the simplest/lowest form of an RPG, it's probably more of an RPS. |

great game! (I have a translated version of a 1376 robin hood story. it is the original story of robin hood and is actually a tragedy. it will come out in a couple of years.) |

I have a question: I have downloaded the first two scenarios, but where can I download the rest of them? |
