I think we have unearthed another new star in the scenario design field!
I enjoyed this authors first scenario “Seven Samurai” so thought that I would download this one and give it a shot. This guy has a great feel for the triggers and how and when to use them. He really brings a scene to life with intelligent and logical use of triggered conversations.
It really is a delight to walk around and receive info .. or jokes.. or red herrings from the little fellows (and ladies) walking around the screen. The characters will talk to you again with different messages some of the time and great responses like a guy gives you some money first time you click.. next time you click him he says “What broke already?” Little things like this really make a scenario enjoyable. Watch for some of the hilarious little “cut scenes” that take place around the map. I also liked very much the intelligent and very realistic way of upgrading your men!
A small criticism is the lack of detail in large areas of the map (I am guilty of this too) give the scenarios a slightly unfinished look to them. Also having to walk long distances at times with nothing much happening ( I swear it took my guys 5 minutes to walk from Jerusalem back to Jaffa) was a bit annoying. I guess this is a subjective thing (from a judges point of view) but I couldn’t bring myself to deduct 1 point for map design because the author had failed to “fill in” superfluous map areas. The City areas in which a lot of action takes place are first rate!
Contrast this (sometime lack of detail in the countryside) against the magnificent and detailed cities and docks and it makes you wonder. The attention to detail in some ares is superb.. the Wailing wall, the dock areas, Jerusalem and Lincoln, the palaces are all magnificent and very apt. I love the way the bitmap at the start even has the Dome of the Rock! The story is just sensational and the covering history an enjoyable read. For playability I would give this a 6/5 but 5 is all that we can.
The Balance is great.. you have to fight with your heroes so you do develop an affinity with them as you constantly have to ensure their victory .. and safety. Most of the battles requires some good “battle management”.. but the Author usually gives you some good retreat and heal options.. like allied monks or garrisoning opportunities!
I must admit I was really disappointed at the end… because it ended.. I want more of Robins Adventures! |

The story of Robin Hood has already been used in many scenarios and campaign, but out of all them there is one that stands above all. “The Adventures of Robin Hood” is without a doubt the best incarnation that has ever been done here at AoK Heaven. This campaign is very well rounded and it is an absolute must have.
To start off, the scenario's Playability was very good with every important element of RPGs being present. For instance, we can find many extras and upgrades and mini quest, so this campaign has a lot to offer. On the down side, even though both scenarios were pretty fun to play through, they both suffer the side of the effect of the map design. In both scenarios, the player must travel through large distance for long period of times and this can get very boring and frustrating.
In terms of balance I must say that the author did an outstanding job in creating both scenarios so balanced. In order to survive this adventure the player must do a lot of micro-management and play smart. Of course, some players may actually die on their first time, but after a few tries it becomes obvious as to what are the best strategies.
The creativity was excellent in this campaign. Every trigger was used in way to improve the game play. As an illustration, the second scenario feature legendary heroes just to spice up the adventure. Now, I know that today the creativity may not seem all that cutting edge but we need to keep in mind that this is one of the early campaigns.
The map design was fantastic and there was a great attention to details. For example, the city of Jerusalem was extremely well designed and looked very realistic. However, the map design in both scenarios has a few weaknesses. In the first scenario, the desert was extremely dominant and it wasn’t very appealing because this was a major contrast with the cities. The problem here is really that the cities do not seem to fit the countryside. In the second scenario the player simply a follow a path which run straight and it’s not very exciting. Furthermore, the countryside also feels a bit too artificial and I feel it could have used more work.
Lastly, the storyline was brilliant and worthy of Robin Hood. The author took time to create a great script for this campaign unlike other people who neglect this crucial area. The author also did a great job in developing the main characters Robin and Will because as the story progresses the player really develops a bond between the heroes. In addition, the instructions were very well presented and helpful.
In the end, “The Adventures of Robin Hood” from Gregory Koteles is a masterpiece and an absolute must have for every campaign fans. This campaign is very special and I’m sure that everyone who downloads this campaign will be delighted. However, the only sad thing about this magnificent campaign is that it feels incomplete, as there is much more to Robin Hood. |

Playability: 4
Out of the many Robin Hood scenarios and campaigns; The Adventures of Robin Hood by Gregory Koteles is one of the best. It is very fun and enjoyable and I could play on it for hours. It is a scenario you could play again. The only problem is that there is a huge amount of walking involved and that makes the game become boring. If there is less walking involved the score would be a 5
Balance: 4
Another problem I found with the campaign was the balance. I found the game very hard on Moderate. You only have a small number of soldiers who don't have very good abilities, but the enemy gets a large number of very good soldiers. If the game is made a bit easier I would give a score of 5
Creativity: 5
This is creative campaign. Although there have been many Robin hood scenarios./campaigns this is by far one of the most creative. It features legendary heroes like Saladin, Will Scarlett and of course Robin Hood himself. There is a good map design and a great Story. There are many great Trigger Tricks too. Each trigger is set in a way which make the game much more fun.
Map Design: 4
The map design is very good. The cities are especially well designed and are the best bits. The buildings are spaced out well and make the cities look realistic. As for the countryside, it looks too fake and artificial. It needs more terrain mixing, elevation, cliffs and eye-candy. The use of GAIA objects did improve the scenario a bit more though. The maps are also too large and mean there is a lot a walking to get to different parts of the scenario.
Story/Instructions: 5
The story in the campaign is great. It tells the legend really well and makes the game very enjoyable. It includes all of the Robin Hood heroes as well. Without the story this campaign would be very very boring. The Instructions are clear and easy to understand.. If you do get stuck all you have to do is look at the helpful Hints page.

If you like Robin hood then this is a must Download.
