A Guide to Constantinople
There have been already several quite successful attempts to draw a map of the City, among them a very nice one by Shaitana in ‘The Fall of Constantinople’ scenario. The present one depicts the City at the time of the Crusades (c. between AD 1000-1200). It was intended for a campaign dealing with some events of the First Crusade. The campaign, however, is still ‘under construction’.
The main features of this map is that the most important churches, palaces and gates have their corresponding names and that the City is not empty. Trade-carts, boats and villagers do what they are expected to, guards patrol the City, idle citizens attend chariot-races (since there are no chariots in the AoK, the Hippodrome is only half-full). The City works well with Bonvivant.ai, which is simply a version of Immobile_Units.ai + trade-carts, villagers, some trade and development (good for most scenarios). It will work, hopefully, with any AI.
There are some minor deviations from historical reality:
1. By AD 1000 the wall of Theodosius was actually a double wall. I decided not to show a double line of walls to save space.
2. I am not quite sure, if one or two churches present on the map were there by AD 1000.
3. No plans of Pera and its defenses (if there were any) between AD 1000 and 1200 were available to me, so what is there on the map looks more like 15th century Galata.
Several slight modifications have been made in the updated version (place-names, brief intro scene)
Feel free to use the map for your scenarios and campaigns, attack the city or defend it.
Enjoy

DESIGN TEAM ENOTH:
I am a long-time designer here at AoE and AoK. I recently began working professionally for Empire Earth. A break in my schedule recently allowed me to return to AoK for awhile -- I'm glad I did, because I just discovered your work. I am in the process of playing and evaluating a few of your campaigns in preparation for reviewing them. Your work is terrific! I do have constructive suggestions I want to make, but nevertheless I am thrilled to discover your scenarios.
Right now I want to comment on your AI file, "bonvivant." It's fabulous! It adds so much to your scenarios... it makes me feel like I've walked into a living, breathing medieval world!
I HIGHLY recommend that you make this ai file available separately in our Downloads section! If you do, e mail me and I will notify other designers about it in the Scenario Design Forum.
Meanwhile, I expect to have many pleasant hours playing and reviewing your work. Thank you! |

I have only one word:Super!
But,it would be a good idea to give mounted units instead of Teutonic Knights. They are too slow. |

VERY GOOD MAP DESIGN!!
This is a good exploring utility, but dens down on the triggers!!!
What like 50, simply to rename 50 things! move them to one trig, IMO anyway.
The title shouldn't be called "A GUIDE to Constantinople" as ther was no 'guiding' done but a very good map, I be rating it a 4 or something like that :). |
