To install DAT-files:
You need the 1.0c patch for The Conquerors Expansion.
If you run version 1.0 and want to go back to version 1.0 later, start with step 1 through 7.
If you run version 1.0 and want to continue playing the patch version only, start with step 2 through 6.
If you run version 1.0c start with step 3 through 6.
NOTE: Make sure the game does not run.
1. Go to Default/Microsoft Games and create a subfolder, “Version 1.0”. Copy Age of Empires II and place it into the folder. Create subfolder “version 1.0c”.
2. Download and install patch 1.0c. http://download.microsoft.com/download/ageIIConquerers/Update/1.0c/W982KMe/EN-US/Age2XPatch.exe
3. Create a subfolder “Original DAT-files”, go to Default/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/Data and copy the files you replace, in this case empires2_x1_p1 into “Original DAT-files”, for backup.
4. Download this utility, extract the altered empires2_x1_p1 to Default/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/Data, and confirm the replacement.
5. Start The Conquerors Expansion and enjoy.
6. To play the unaltered version 1.0c again, copy and paste empires2_x1_p1 to Default/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/Data.
7. To go back to version 1.0, make sure the game does not run. Cut and paste the patched version 1.0c into subfolder “version 1.0c”. Then cut and paste version 1.0 from your respective subfolder to Default/Microsoft Games.

hey, thankyou very much! Im sure this will help me and hopefully quite a few people.
Before i saw this, i managed to get it to work by renaming it to replace a different file, without changing the game version...
Instead of 'empires2_x1_p1', i renamed it so i was replacing the 'empires2_x1' file instead. Probably not the best way to do it, but it seems to work OK so far. |

Great!
It can run smoothly now, but I found there is no any new object/unit of player2-8 and Gaia. I can't creat new object/unit in triggers. Could anyone tell me how to set that?
I have tried to creat new files such as empires2_x1_p2.dat,empires2_x1_p3.dat ... , but it can't work. Hahh
thanks in advance.[Edited on 09/21/06 @ 06:56 AM]
