First review in the new and strange format. I am an explorer entering new and strange lands. Well, not really. Hey! The ratings popped up automatically!
... Okay, onto the review.
Samurai Story is the story of Minamoto, a samurai warrior in the service of his king, with no disclosed name that is shown. He is sent on a few missions, then the plot twists. I won't tell you the story, but it wasn't too bad.
Playability: 3
It was pretty fun to play this game, because he incorperated two types of gaming. RPS and B&D. In four campaigns, you go through Minamoto's trials, for a better Japan. This new designer put it together quite nicely, and had fun features and sidequests. However, I found the walking time far too long at points, and it's no fun to walk through aslightly barren design for too long. Otherwise, he did a good job.
Balance: 4
Not too bad. The first scenario was a little easy, but it was actually possible to lose. The second one was as well. A fun B&D scenario that took a while, but had fun elements. It took me a little while, but it was worth it. The thrid scenario however had no possible death, but that was alright. The fourth was basically an interactive cutscene, so I won't rate that.
Creativity: 3
This is your basic Samurai serves king, Samurai is betrayed, Samurai gets revenge story, but it's not all that bad. Also, he made sure to add different things to keep you from getting too bored. It was a good idea witha linear story.
Map Design: 4
It was a little bland, but he put in what he wanted and that's pretty good. I think he got the results he wanted, and it wasn't all that bad. It was just a little unexciting to walk around so much. Still, he's not a total newbie that doesn't know that green maps are bad. ;)
4 because I can not longer .5 things. He deserves it though, a great first shot. :)
Story/Instructions: 3
It was your usual linear story, and the instructions were a little hazy. There weren't many instructions shown, and some were crossed out before completion. However, you knew what to do most of the time. There were many spelling errors, punctuation errors, capitolization errors, but you could understand it.
Additional Comments: This budding designer already knows some stuff, but he's not bad. Not bad at all. He needs to brush up on his map design though. He also needs to use his grammar correctly, and we at the AoKH forums would probably be glad to help him out, right guys? ;)
All in all, this wasn't a bad scenario, not nearly. It was a fun way to pass some time. Try it, you might like it. :)
