The Partisans

Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Style: Role Playing Strategy
Strictly speaking, this is not a "proper" AoK scenario. For one thing, it takes place in 1942, not in Middle Ages. I have
somehow grown tired of the endless Charlemagne, El Cid and Agincourt campaigns, not to mention the Riders of Rohan ones.
Don't get me wrong, they are OK, but let's try something else.

This little scenario is all about fighting: you have to think quick, stay alive and wisely fight your way through the enemy

You're surrounded and vastly outnumbered, you have no base, no castles and no walls, limited supplies, you fight to live,
otherwise starve or get killed. The only way is to use guerilla tactics, strike when and where not expected, regroup and
quickly withdraw, avoiding frontal fight and getting cornered.

Stay well. Have fun. And let me know of the bugs, if they occur.

I'd like to thank rwilde for the review of my scenario - although it took me some time to see it. Not that I'm much satisfied with the rating, but hey - you don't argue with the referee, do you?

There are also a few things to point out.

In the scenario you command a partisan detachment with a task to protect the refugees hiding in the hospital. The hospital (building) itself is of no importance, it is the refugees you should try to protect. Anyway, if they are killed, the main objective changes: you are to stay alive and to break through the enemy lines (i.e. kill the Nazi commander, destroy the enemy HQ, bring all the survivors there and prevent the enemies from following you by keeping them on a distance). Rwilde mentions the right strategy of winning - splitting forces and creating diversions all over the map, ambushing while retreating, etc.

Also, rwilde is right: I did make the scenario quite hard to win on purpose - in reality, winning in such circumstances would be even harder if not impossible. But it can be done - here is an example of the winning strategy (played on Hardest, and saving the refugees, it takes about 20 minutes to win).

Of course, there are other strategies.

For example, if your refugees get killed, your combat units gain extra "anger" points that make them stronger.

You could also try to sneak up the beastly Onagers from behind (a few at a time, using 5-6 combat units), especially on the levels below Hard.

On rare occasions you could manoeuvre your units into defeating/obliterating all enemy units, but that takes skill and patience. You couldn't expect Yugoslav partisans to do it, not in 1942.

Also, sometimes the Chetniks and the Ustashas will start a quarrel among themselves and forget about you - use it well - it won't last long.

Sometimes your detachment will be crushed - only a few survivors remaining, hiding and facing starvation. That is another realistic situation in which you could try to avoid the enemy and sneak to the flagged area of the base (provided the Nazi leader and the HQ are eliminated).

Rwilde, you've done a good job. Thanks. I could agree with you on almost everything except the final line of the review. I think the scenario is worth a try.

rwilde Just noticed the new recorded game file there. I'll make a note to come back to this and try again.
ByZaN SHould of made the Cetnik Serbs, my Grandads (and part of my mums) side of the family were Cetniks. They were Royalists, who fought for the king and Serbia.

It's hard for me to understand what you mean, ByZaN, but I'll try to answer you anyway. The scenario wasn't meant either to conway or propagate any political statement, for the history has spoken its word on all the parties involved. Just... I sincerely hope you're not too proud of your Chetnik ancestry. The Chetniks did fight for the King and for Serbia, but in doing so they collaborated with the Nazis and the Fascists, and they comitted atrocities against civilians - even the Serbs. Stay well and look ahead.
laz123 Where's the hospital?
