A campaign based on the historical ballads of Robin Hood, including material from modern tellings of the tale. This campaign focuses on story and characterization and helping the player relive the legendary battles that Robin Hood fought. It stays true to the history and style of Robin Hood and includes many avi cutscenes from movies and T.V. shows. Some scenarios are meant solely to advance the plotline and act as interactive interludes.

Note: This file is same campaign as the 6 part download only this version does not contain any movie files.

I downloaded this Robin Hood campaign as I have researched him myself so this seemed an interesting download. You are introduced to Robin after he leads a rebellion of crusaders against the Saracens in a bid to make it home to England.

Playability: The playability was good, it featured some interesting missions such as gathering sheep and destroying Saracen forges. Another good thing was there was optional missions to do, which added to the enjoyment and replay factor. Overall the playability throughout the entire campaign was average.

Balance: The campaign’s balance was another solid part of the campaign. It had it’s easy parts an example being able to sneak down the side in scenario 1 right to the end of the campaign and only fighting escaping the Saracen base and at the docks. An example of a hard part of the campaign was playing through scenario 3 and I often lost units here because of the number of enemy units around.

Creativity: It had some creative ideas, leading a rebellion and escaping, going after you’re fathers killers. It was a well thought out campaign with some good ideas that kept the campaign interesting. To improve the campaign’s creativity you could add progress some of the ideas further, for example after escaping from the Saracen stronghold you could have to flee before the Saracen units are alerted from the castle.

Map Design: The map design was a series of edited random maps, the third scenario seemed like it had been crafted without the use of a random map to begin with though. The maps were good to look at and as written in the review guidelines score a rating of 3. To improve the map design try to differentiate the maps more and possibly adding more things to keep the player interested as you travel to you’re objectives.

Story/Instructions: The story was another strong part of the campaign, although containing no bitmaps the other sections included enough information based around where I was beginning each scenario and the events that have occured. The instructions were at points strong and at points weak, for example at the beginning of the campaign it is clear you have to kill the jailer to begin the rebellion but when told to head for the sea you are left with no idea as to where the sea is. Try to make it all ways clear of what you are supposed to do at all times.

Overall: One of the better campaigns about Robin Hood in the Blacksmith and a solid campaign overall. A good download if you don’t mind playing through maps similar to the random maps. A few more alterations and this campaign could easily further the campaigns score.

Playability: Very challenging and held my intrest
Balance: Some scenarios were very long and difficult and
were short but necessary to tell the story.
Creativity: A lot of research and hard work put into this
Map Design: Challenging and great secret areas/triggers
Story/Instructions: Historically accurate as far as I could
tell. Each scenario had one or more parts that
had to be completed to go on to the next section
of the scenario.
