the Xiongnu, a confederation of nomadic tribes that dominated Central Asia for two centuries beginning about 2,300 years ago.
Known as the Huns of Asia, the Xiongnu (or Hsiung-nu) were fierce warriors. They were among the first to use a stirrup as they rode into battle on harnessed horses, shooting arrows and spears—a style of warfare that enabled them to easily defeat Chinese armies who fought in chariots and on foot.

The Story Screen talks about the 4th and 3rd centuries BC when the Xiongnu were at their height around northern China. The protagonists on your side are Tanyu and General Tarcin, and the enemy is General Han and the Imperial Han Chinese forces.
The "All Empires" website says that Tanyu is another spelling for Chanyu, the normal title for ancient Xiongnu rulers.
The Description says that the Xiongnu "dominated Central Asia for two centuries beginning about 2,300 years ago," so I take it that the scenario is for slightly later than 300 BC- 200 BC.

The "Xiongnu Leader Of The Huns" campaign was made by Oghuz Khan in 2004 and the starting layout of the first scenario reminds me very much of the "demo" scenario "Xiongnu" made a year later in 2005 by The Turk: They both feature a snowy, woodsy map with a vertical starting road and your army is made of Asian cavalry and starts in the north corner of the map. Both have similar game titles "Xiongnu Leader of the Huns" and "Xiongnu." In both cases your job is to storm the Chinese and there is a wall. So I think that the scenarios are probably related, with one being based on the other conceptually.
In the 2004 campaign's first scenario, the leader is not clear historically, since he's just called Xiongnu. In the 2005 scenario, he is named Tanyu, which the All Empires website says is another spelling for Chanyu, the common title given to ancient Xiongnu rulers until they took on the name Khagan in c. 402 AD.
