Bitmap Transparency Fixer

Author File Description

File Details
Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
This is a simple script I made using Auto-It v3 to reduce the tedium of converting 256 color bitmaps into the AoK format. It uses Windows Paint with simulated keystrokes and mouse movements to replace the opaque background with the AoK alpha mask color. It does not convert palettes, however; I recommend Alien_Blood's converter for that.
This file is not thoroughly tested, and modifying the .cfg file may produce unwanted results. Please note that since this program simulates both the keyboard and the mouse, it is advised that you do not interrupt it -- If you do need to stop the program, the ESCAPE button should suffice.

To use this program, unzip it to any directory (both files must be in the same directory), and run the BMPAuto.exe file. A file open dialog prompts you to select the BMPs you wish to fix -- 256 color AoK format only. Please select more than one (there's a bug that prevents it from processing only one) and be patient while the program processes the bitmap.
Keep in mind this is presently experimental (just an afternoon's work after some modpack frustrations), so please be patient with the program and report any problems to me.

One more thing: it usually doesn't do anything on the first try -- you may have to coerce it to work for you. I will submit a fixed version as soon as I have figured out just what is wrong with it...

I receive an error message, “unable to execute the external program” and a line in German (my machine runs Windows in German) that the name is invalid. Your program seems not to locate MS paint on my computer.

Yeah, that's certainly a compatibility issue. It uses only English text for file and process searches, so I don't imagine it would work on a computer running another language. The problem is that it isn't integrated with the machine; everything the utility does must be purely external.
I could supply the source code if you're willing to adapt it to your particular computer. It's about 4.00 KB of text, and all you'd need is the Auto-It compiler and help file, plus a little patience. At any rate, I don't think it's a problem I could universally accomodate since I don't know what to tell the program to look for. I know that scripting can be really finicky, but I wasn't about to engineer my own bitmap editor, either. :D

Thanks for the input!
Taichi San It's very good to see site this alive!
The more downloads the better!

And eh... this is a very good utility for my Populous: The beginning to Age of Empires: The Age of Kings project, because it can convert easily the other images.

What is this project?
Populous: The Beginning is a very cool 3D strategy game, and I'm a great fan of it. (I don't know, if someone knows this game. You can see pictures of it in reviews of the game)

It's my purpose to finally import most of the graphics of that game into this game.
To see already the results, I manipulated a BMP picture, and the result was amazing!!

I hope that soon my first installer is ready to install the first components that are ready.

The first download only contains changed interface recources, but the download will grow in later versions, because more components are ready.

EDIT: Use the edit button, avoid double/triple posts. I edited your three posts into one and corrected grammar and spelling.

Ancient warrior: Thanks, I didnt know, that I could edit my own messages, but how do I insert images?

Taichi San Now, my project is in the first stage.
> Backgrouds are changed.
> The new MOD has no support for the orriginal campaigns. The custom campaign option can be used, but give the orriginal campaigns other names to let it work. this has the amazing result that the interfac.drs is degreased to 19MB!

Next steps:
-Rebuild menu.
-Change unit icons.
-Change the "in game" interface.

To post pictures, you need to upload your pictures somewhere, such as and then use HTML tags: ""
rwilde You can't use HTML tags unless you are posting in your own submission in the main/top post. It's not the best idea to promote your own work in the comments section of another person's submission anyway.
