LIGHTNING AND THUNDER
THE TEASER
This is a cutscene which will introduce you to the magnificent story of two twins, who were separated by a saxon assault on their home village in Norway around the end of the Viking era.
The final campaign will feature three fully playable scenarios - one B&D, one RPG, and one FF - and one more cutscene. I have already finished the B&D part and it is currently in the hands of skilled playtesters.
This campaign will probably be the first of its kind to feature a customized data file, which will introduce the world of AoK to a whole new set of tricks. The altered data file lies here on my (computer's) desk, but it's not needed in this cutscene, and therefore I decided not to include it with this teaser.
Enjoy this short cutscene, and don't forget to read the readme document.

Latest update: Added a .avi movie to the teaser. When compressed, the movie isn't bigger than a normal sound file (0,5 mb). A cookie to the person who first tells me where I got the sound file from. ;-) |

This teaser goes for a little under ten minutes and opens up the story for Lightning and Thunder.
Playability: (5.0)
This cut-scene was one of the best and most exciting I have ever viewed. The tricks used and the creativity involved was all very stunning and visually compelling. There were no bugs, lag or any other game deficiencies, which added to this cut-scene's ever lasting impact. This vivid cut-scene introduces a surely exciting campaign in the future.
Balance: (5.0)
When rating this category, reviewers must take into account the author’s intentions and goals of the design. It is in the intention of the author that this scenario evolves plot and story, and to show a cut-scene whereby the player receives no units to control and no struggle to survive. As such there is no deduction from the overall score because there is no fighting for the player.
Creativity: (5.0)
The creativity was very impressive indeed. We open up with the sun rising over the Village Grimfjell, each wave of light showing us more of the seaside and harbouring town, silently swept away in a deep slumber. The music used from the score 'Once upon a time in the West' was brilliantly used to match every second of the cut-scene, which gave out the feelings and atmosphere the audience needed to be taken that one step further. The trick where all the buildings suddenly disappear under a black fog instead of the grey fog was also impressive. But most of all, the way everything worked was the main thing, which makes this cut-scene great.
Map Design: (5.0)
The map design was excellent, with alot of eye candy used on the water, and the village made to good effect. At first the terrain looks rather bleak and perhaps ‘too white’. But I've never seen snow before (Except in Books etc) and I'm assuming that when snow falls, everything is white, so otherwise the terrain was good.
Story Instructions: (4.0)
The introducing story was nothing short of brilliant. We are told from a Viking point of view the sad fall of the Viking era, and how his people have forgotten how to fight. Thus keen enemy invaders take advantage over this and attack. It was all very well done and told. The hints were also helpful, and the poem at the end of a splendid watch added the experience. However, because this is only a prologue scenario, overall incomplete because of an unfinished story, a point is deducted because the story is still yet to unwind in full and therefore cannot be perfect.
In a word – Epic.
In closing – A must download.[Edited on 07/02/08 @ 10:14 PM]
