The Conquerors 1.0c |
TEUTON IN LOVE
By Oliver, member of Tsunami Studios
This is my first - and probably last - scenario only based on a cutscene. Therefore, all you'll have to do is relax and watch the little computer people walk around, chatting with each other.
This is the story of the young teuton Galdric, probably the only teuton at aokh with love troubles. I made this story because I was bored and needed some 'vacation' from my big projects, plus I wanted to tell a story that no-one had told before.
One night when I was listening to Led Zeppelin's awesome 'The Rain Song', the picture of the cutscene emerged and shined like crystal on fire. I knew exactly what I was going to make. And I made it. So here it is, 'Teuton in Love', a cutscene scenario for the Conquerors, probably the most emotional scenario I've ever made. (Probably the only emotional scenario I've ever made.)
I truly hope that you will enjoy this scenario as much as I enjoyed creating it. Yes, it sounds cliché, but it's true. Expressions are probably often called clichés because they're true in so many cases.
Love y'all

This is a short romantic cutscene about an unlikely fictional character - Galdric the Teutonic Knight.
Playability: 5
I enjoyed this cutscene a lot - firstly the story was entertaining and romantic. Add to that some comedy value - a vegetarian wolf for example. Finally the music was beautiful and the timing was perfect - the song suited the scenario and the way it progressed, while the careful exposition - e.g. map revealers placed skillfully, dialogues timed perfectly, was done like a master director.
Balance: 5 (Cutscene)
Creativity: 5
It's tough to get a 5 in a cutscene - you really need to come up with something special, like a new trick, and without gameplay that can be rather difficult. This scenario is highly creative in every aspect - the whole concept is unique, while the map design shows a lot of creativity. The thing that really amazed me was the chimney of the house creating little puffs of smoke - a very subtle but genius little eye candy trick that I haven't seen before. There were other subtle creative things too - the deer coming out of the bush looked spot on, and the "undressed" trick was neat too. These subtle touches will be missed by the casual watcher but they certainly impressed me.
Map Design: 5
A microscopic map is used with beautiful and creative eye candy and terrains, while each scene's backdrop is designed for aesthetics and functionality too - the bush for example, and the flowers. Very nice to look at and made it all the more enjoyable to watch. The houses were wonderful, especially the first, although I liked the horses behind the second a lot too.
Story/Instructions: 5
Pretty much covered in playability - the instructions and readme etc. were clear and concise; overall presentation was of a high standard.
Overall: 5
A very impressive wee cutscene – chalk up another 5 star :) |

As much as I hate to admit it, there's no doubt in my mind that this cutscene deserves a five. It's simply my own jealousy of never coming up with such a brilliant concept that I would hate reviewing this the way I do. Not perfect, no, but damn close. =)
Playability: 4
The cutscene was timed perfectly with the song (one of my favorite songs, as well), with the mood being quite well presented. Some slight comedy, not insomuch that I'd laugh, but a familiar tinge awoke within me. The romantic novelty was well put together, and not something you often see in a wargame. However, I found it a little bit to the point, and short. For a cutscene though, it was still well put out. 4.

It's absolutely brilliant - you never get enough love stories in a wargame. Not that I'm an actual fan of that genre, but it's so well laid out that I can't resist. There are some tricky things in the map itself as well - as rwilde said, the smoke from the house was something I had never seen before. 5.

Very good. Slightly better than what I can manage, and I've been here a decent amount of time. I suppose I'm just not up to par. ^_^
It's a well laid out map, with a few pieces that seemed a little bland, but that won't take away from the rating at all. It's still lovely to look at. 5.
Story/Instructions: 4
A brilliantly scripted love story, it captures the angst of fear of rejection, and as the author himself stated, "It's for anyone who's ever had a crush." Some aspects, like the blatant love-at-first-sight-sex, kind of ruined it a little for me, but it wasn't too bad. It was kind of rushed, and with such a short playtime, there isn't much that I can really look at. Nonetheless, it's one of the better things I have seen myself. =)
Additional Comments:
Yes, I must seem like a heartless bastard for being so cheap - forgive me Oliver, for the 4.6. I still highly reccomend this to all comers, it's a great (albeit short) piece of work that will leave you with a happy feeling the rest of the day. On I go to watch it again! |

Very nicely done. The smoke was so well done that at first I thought this must have been a feature which of AoK which I had never noticed before. And good to reacquaint myself with Zeppelin (though I wonder if you shouldn't give Jimmy Page a credit too). |

When can we expect a Reprise with "Black Dog" and "Stairway to Heaven"?. |
