The Conquerors 1.0c |
This was a community project started a few years ago, and I am happy to return it to the community that spawned it. Unfortunately, it only ultimately reached a state of semi-completion. A new patch is in the works to fix the flaws, but this is what so many have been demanding, so here is the primary download. Please read the instructions included in the zip file, and you'll find installation is quite simple. Any questions, just e-mail me and I'll be happy to answer you back quickly.
Currently, all of the civilizations have been converted to Tolkien and LOTR-based entities, though there are few that are not playable. This is due to bumps in the design process where certain civilizations just don't fit a particular mold. There are several graphical glitches in the ModPack, but it is quite playable. We hope to make some key improvements to many things, so keep an eye on a future patch that's currently in the works.
The features and changes are too many to list, as this is after all, a 'total conversion'. All else I can say is have fun and enjoy the hard work put into this project. ;) |

Middle Earth Total Conversion is one of the best Mod Packs I have seen in the Blacksmith. It is a total conversion, converting most of the units and buildings into LOTR units including, Ents, Balrog, Orcs, Hobbits, etc and also adds many LOTR heroes like Aragorn, Legolas, Gandalf, Frodo, Gimli, Saruman. Middle Earth Total Conversion is the best thing to use for a Lord of the rings scenario. It includes great graphics and stat changes (although I do know where you got the Aragorn, Legolas and cave troll graphics from: the Lord of the Rings Return of the King for Game boy, the best GBA game in the world). METC would improve any LOTR scenario with the great units, buildings and civs. This is one of the best mod ever! |

You could use the Advanced Search link on the left navigation bar and look to see which LOTR mod has the highest rating or number of downloads. Or try other files and see for yourself. |

1. This is my first review and my first mod download.
2. I give this mod a 4 because even though it was a very expansive and well done mod it has several flaws and glitches.
3. Before I list the flaws I would like to compliment the good things: the new units are creative and a well made recreation of the LOTR charaters; the buildings are very unique and is amazing to be created from scratch; the wonders are very interesting. I like this mod because it is the only one so far that is most like the LOTR story.
4. The flaws that I have noticed so far include: 1)the graphics on the buildings should be sharpened up a bit. It would create a more realistic look for a Middle Earth world. Also the destruction effects on some of the buildings need to be fixed. 2) Some of the units had lame graphics and movements (Ents and Trolls etc.) that could be cleaned up and made more realistic. 3) Some of the terrain glitches out and copies itself over buildings and in some cases actually deletes the buildings all together. 4) Some of the unit icons were either mixed up or very poorly made.
5. Overall, this mod is the best LOTR mod out there but could be fixed up to make a more realistic LOTR Middle Earth AOK. I am very happy with this mod and would definintely recommend it for anyone who would like to enjoy a LOTR type AOK.

I like alot of people had high hopes for this file but similarly like alot of people have been unable to play due to the absence of scx files. Everything is in place except the modifications to the actual appearance of the games. All the units have name changes but appear to be exactly the same as they were before. I've installed the mod 2-3 times using the *exact* instructions provided to no avail. Could someone please provide a fix for this as its an ongoing issue and has I think prevented alot of LOTR fans playing what looks like a dayyymned fyyyne mod. Thanks in advance!!!
EDIT:
1. There are no screenshots for this mod
2. Whe requesting support for the mod I received nothing - either here or in a private email to the creator
3.Several peoplpe have had the same issue over the past few *years* and it *still* hasn't been resolved
4. I posted a review stating that this mod by the sounds of it deserves many accolades but due to the fact that for many (and I might hazard the majority) it simply doesn't work. This review was not accepted though it was reasonable in tone and in content
This mod either does not exist or the download is faulty. I have tried to install this countless times and it has not worked once. I asked a friend to do it and again it did not work. If anyone manages to post full instructions on how to install this mod using the provided download I will retract the above and write the glowing review this mod apparently deserves.[Edited on 03/30/11 @ 01:12 AM]

bushidoclan, my apologies in my delay commenting on your problem as well as your review. Things are rather hectic my end, causing me to neglect parts of my volunteer work here.
I didn't approve your review because I felt it did not fairly or accurately represent the file at hand. Everything else I have no complaints with.
I understand your frustration, but I just tested the file three times and it works fine. I opened the winzip folder, double selected "metc.akx", selected the Conquerors icon (expansion pack for Age of Kings which I believe you will need to test this mod, although I'm not sure that matters) that appears soon after and enjoyed the graphic changes from 'Age of Kings' to 'Lord of the Rings'. The only thing missing were the name and stat changes for the units/ buildings because I was too lazy to extract the DATA, HISTORY, MUSIC and LANGUAGE files into the Age of Kings directory. In saying all that, I don't know about any .scx file but the modification changes are definitely there. Enough at least for a designer to perhaps make his own scenario from it all.
METC is a total-conversion mod, in that it changes all or most of the buildings and units of 'the Age of Kings: The Conquerors'. It requires literally two clicks to get the mod up and running; even without extracting the separate .zip files found in the main winzip file itself (e.g. DATA, MUSIC, LANGUAGE...), the downloader may still enjoy the graphic changes (I noticed the Elven and Gondorion building sets) and a new main menu for the game.
Although there seems to be no .scx file present, you can still go through the graphic changes (which the mod is only intended to create, hence 'modification') by having a run through the map editor itself. The changes are there, make no mistake about that. ;-)
By the way, the file was made back in 2005, six years ago. I'd be highly surprised if the author contacted at all.[Edited on 03/30/11 @ 01:48 AM]

I have given this mod 5 chances, installing, de-installing, extracting, even uninstalling everything AoK and then re-installing them...
this mod has not worked once.
Did I follow the instructions? No. Why not? Because they are a joke. Steps 2 and 6 tell me to move AKX and scenario files... where are they?
When I did everything I could I got half the mod - aragorns all over the place and backgrounds changed, but not the full thing (from what I can gather of other people's descriptions...)
I am writing this in the aftermath of my final, failed attempt. MPS has crashed my computer in a new and imaginative way, and AoK is now permanently stuck with the new backgrounds and some skins.
I will now have to uninstall and reinstall my AoK set -- again.
Very dissapointed - this needs a re-release with proper instructions.
To be fair, I see other people got half a mod and now have the full thing - no such luck here.
Given a 2 so that people don't look at the rating and think "must be perfect!".
Consider this a review of your download - not of the finished product (which sounds very good) - but of it in the current state accessible for some users.
EDIT: Ooh, just realised the AKX must be the iconned/MPS file. My mistake.
Still doesn't help as I have tried *every* way I can conceive to install this mod, and hasn't worked.[Edited on 01/29/12 @ 10:50 PM]

Occasionally my units become invisible but I assign a group a number and then they are easy to find and move or add more units.
I paid steam $20 for AOE II HD but it is junk. The enhancements are minimal. The programmers not only didn't fix some old outstanding bugs but introduced new ones that still aren't all fixed. From the promos I expected it to be more like METC which is fantastic. For years (I'm 75) I've been playing pretty well all the versions with lots of mods but nothing matches METC, bugs or not. The design of the buildings and units are amazing.
So far I've only been playing the conquers campaigns which I'm very pleased with. I have been unable to get the Middle-Earth mods to work yet. I need to check things to find out what I've done wrong.
Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
