Someone suggested that you can save & re-load a saved recorded game while playing it, I tried that and I could not, however in that game I caught the game cheating by building a 2nd castle for which it had not acquired the necessary amount of stone to build the 2nd castle (650 ST), and 21 walls (105), 3 gates (90), 2 keeps (250), 2/3 TC’s (200+), total 1295 stone from the 150 remaining from the 1st castle.
It is known that the game cheats. It is described in the manual of AOK/AOC.

It's simple: At the start the hardest AI gets 500 of every resource and for each age-up it gets 500 again. So if it reaches imperial age, it will have 2000 of every resource that it didn't collect. Also, as soon as the computer player is imperial, he'll get extra resources every 10 minutes (maybe more or less, but approximately 10 minutes), this is done by "cc-add-resource" commands which are triggered every 10 minutes.
To find out that it's really like that, simply change player 1 to a computer player before starting a random map and you will see that if you before set the difficulty to hardest, it will start with 700 food instead of 200 and something similar applies to the other resources.
