“Battle of The Empires IV” is a campaign based around Olly Archer, a originally British person who became Rule of Taiwan. If captured you would be killed for treason.
Playability: The playability of this campaign is mediocre. It is neither good or bad, somewhere in between. Basically you travel around making alliances and enemies and must fight and destroy your enemies to claim honour for Taiwan. You play with Japan, Korea, China and the British who are on St. John Island.
Balance: The balance of Battle of The Empires IV is ok. It was never too challenging, most of the stronger nations had many units and it took a long time to win against countries like China and Japan. The balance could be improved by making a stronger set of Ai files for the civilisations making the stronger countries attack Taiwan.
Creativity: Creativity wise, there is many features such as making alliances and enemies, fighting your old enemy the British on St. John island and finding a gold island. The creativity could be improved by adding even more features of interest for the player.
Map Design: The map design was good. It was another nice map to look at and play through by the author. The only thing, which seemed odd in the map design was the fish in the ocean weren’t spread out and as a result looked odd. However, apart from this the map design was very good and plays a strong part in this campaign.
Story/Instructions: The story tells of how the date is 1790 and you are fighting for Taiwan. The story is well implemented at the opening screen through a good history and instructions section, although the hints section is a little weak. The opening screen has a very good opening bitmap, which sets off the game very nicely. The instructions in the game we very few and you are left to your own decisions and you have a great freedom of what to do in game.
Overall: This campaign is reasonable, the author could do with some Ai files written for this map to make it more of a challenge but other than this, this campaign is fair.
