This scenario-like map is meant to be played on single player only.
You start with a lonely hero, who must wander around looking for independent men and
villages to unite under his lead. Computer opponents start with guarded towns and
other forces scattered everywhere, so you better get moving...
Set the number and teams of computers according to your preferred difficulty.
Regicide is playable, but at start you will have only your hero to defend the king!
I recommend to play with map a little larger than standard, and hidden.
Leader is a creative Random Map Script by Bultro made for Single Player purposes only.
Theme: 4
Leader has a very creative theme which it certainly meets. You start with one lonely hero unit and you must travel around collecting new units such as soldiers and villagers. All of the villagers and soldiers are GAIA units at the start which means all you have to do is go up to them and they will become yours. This map certainly meets the theme of being a leader, as you only start off with one hero unit who must collect more people and lead them to glory against the other civilizations.
Visual Appeal: 3
The author shows good technical skill in Random Map Scripting but could certainly do with alot more work making the map alot more aesthetically pleasing. The majority of the map is open grassland, with a few small blotches of woodland trees and usually a large patch of water near the centre. The map would be alot more attractive if it had more terrains thrown in and mixed together, as well as some larger mixes of trees, not just alot of small ones spaced out. It could also do with some more GAIA objects to be used as eyea-candy to add to the visual effect. Also many of the resource areas are fairly large and square. There seems to be alot of mines all in one big square block, which is unrealistic and quite ugly.
Playability: 3
While the idea and creativity of the map is good and quite fun, I didn't find this map particularly enjoyable to play. I found the map boring to look at and I found most of the gameplay being me running around looking for people so I could build up my army. Once I eventually found some villagers, they all seemed to be near an enemy base so they were quickly attacked. The enemy players, which are all AI players as this RMS is designed for single player only, are given the classic start up of a handful of villagers and a Town Centre, so they got to build up quickly, whilst I was still running around finding people.
Additional Comments:
Overall this map is creative and clever but needs alot more work for the idea to become fun and work properly. A good start though, and I recommend that people download this just to check out the idea Bultro had.
