The Conquerors 1.0c |
Greetings All.
There have been many great scenarios created by proficient designers to convey the vast depth of imagery defined by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien in the 'Lord of the Rings'.
I have worked on this scenario on and off (mostly off) for about year. My original idea was for this scenario to be the exciting introduction to a fresh campaign where the player can experience the events from the 'Lord of the Rings' which would include all the great aspects from the movie yet not letting the original events from the book take a back seat.
However, I feel it will be many moons ere (if at all) this enormous undertaking would be completed.
Therefore I have decided to release this for you all to see.
Since this is my first 'official' creation I encourage you to leave feedback either here or at the 'Lord of the Rings - FOTR - Prologue' thread in the forum.
Note: This is a cutscene. All you need to do is watch.
Please read the readme.txt
I apologise for the size, yet I feel the audio files are necessary. (quality 96kbit)
I hope you enjoy it.
UPDATE Information (v1.2):
Bugs fixed:
- Isildur dying (again)
Some dialogue erros. |

Reasonably good fun to watch, while I appreciate it's only a trailer. Potentially long, boring dialogue shortened somewhat. Some little tricks like the dismounting cartsmen make you sit up every now and then.
At the point where the elves and men face the army of Sauron and shout something in elvish, the scenario seems to get stuck in a loop, and just keeps going around the orcish army without continuing. What is this? Am I supposed to click something, or has a trigger gone wrong?[Edited on 09/24/06 @ 08:52 AM]

VonCorgath:Amazing!Very well done
PaulC2001:There's not a bug in the game, you only have to put 'hard' and the battle will run perfectly. It says so in the objectives. |

Playability: 5
I must say this is the cutscene I have enjoyed most watching. It's interesting and exciting.
Balance: 5
Referring to the tutorial this cut-scene receives a 5.0.
Creativity: 4
Wonderfull!! Of course the idea is not new, but I feel that I get a new angle on it. I've some of the movie, and I'm reading the book. But it's still a new experience "playing" this scen.
Map Design: 4
Incredible!! This is awesome, I think it must be the closest thing to midle
earth except for buying the game! A tip could be to use the middle earth total conversion pack. To make it more realistic.
Story/Instructions: 4
"Sit and enjoy", I must say that is clear and straight forward. The story is
already told, but you have done a great job retelling it. Sill not perfect though. I had hoped to tell you what to do better, but nothing comes into my mind.
Additional Comments:
This is the most incredible cutscene I have ever seen. It really takes you
into the story and makes you want to play the real thing. (at least I cant
wait for it).

Whoa! I haven't checked here for a while. I hope everyone who's downloaded has enjoyed it!
Thanks for the review Map_maker_tester. I really appreciate it. By the way, I'm working on a new update, I noticed there were still a couple bugs left. I'm also going to improve the quality of the music but not at the expense of file size, and perhaps also change a few other things that have caught my eye. I'll comment again when I finally get it up (which will be a little while), and with the new BBCode, who's knows what the description will look like! ;)
Thanks everone. :)[Edited on 09/15/06 @ 04:21 AM]

This is my favourite cutscene!! And out of all lotr things i've seen, probably my favourite out of all of them too!! Keep up good work! (Please)Only thing i would change would be gandalfs speech near the beggining, it was a bit draggy and something could've been happening in the background, but i would still rate this cutscene the best i've seen. Great stuff![Edited on 09/30/06 @ 07:17 PM]

Thanks for your comments Arfazm :-D
Yes I agree, it is a bit boring there, and that is one of the sections I'm planning on doing some editing to in the update. However it will be a little while afore I can get it finished.
I'm glad you enjoyed it![Edited on 10/02/06 @ 08:43 PM]

VonCorgath's cutscene, like countless other Blacksmith pieces, is based on the movie The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, which is in turn based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien of the same name. This cutscene specifically details the prologue to this movie, which tells of the Battle of Dagorlad between Sauron and the forces of Men and Elves, and how the One Ring was lost, found and taken.
Playability (5-): It was a very enjoyable cutscene, and definitely one of the best LotR campaigns available on the blacksmith (and there are plenty available!). The music and sound effects fit well to the events in the story (although I heard some clashing in the Battle of Dagorlad). Some parts do drag a little, but this is a minor oversight.
Balance (5): The cut-scene looks balanced and plays as intended on hard.
Creativity (4+): When making a cutscene, a lot of creativity is needed to keep your audience interested. VonCorgath managed this quite well, using easy but captivating tricks such as Gandalf dismounting from his horse and cart, or Isildur standing in the river being shot by archers. However, I found that having no "fire" there when Isildur was told to "cast the ring into the fire" was a bit of a shame. Lots of renaming took place, though 2 were missing (Isildur on his horse when he was killed and Gandalf after he dismounted).
Map Design (5): The map was immaculately laid out, from the bare, rocky plain of Dagorlad to the peaceful town of Hobbiton. As I commented before, Mount Doom was missing, but I already took a point off for creativity...no need to do it again!
Story/Instructions (4-): The story, though not VonCorgath's own, was very well transferred into the cutscene, although (and this is a completely personal opinion) I found it a shame that he based it on the movie instead of the book. However, there was one problem. When the difficulty was not on Hard, the soldiers in the Battle of Dagorlad did not fight each other. It is true that this is stated in the instructions, but it is not very clear. VonCorgath simply states "Difficulty: Hard" where something like "Note :blah blah blah" would be more appropriate.
Additional Comments:
This is definitely worth a download for LotR junkies like me. If you are sick of endless, n00bish Helm's Deep scenarios, this will be a welcome relief.
NOTE: Other LotR campaigns worth downloading are Mashek's wonderful War of the Ring and StG_Phoenix's Fellowship of the Ring campaigns.
I can't wait for the next instalment...if they're coming...I hope so!!!
