Story:
Your fledgling settlement has been isolated on a peninsula of Turtle Island for years. Legends of old have discouraged you from exploring the rugged countryside away from the ocean shore. Rumor has it that a hermit lives somewhere near the center of the island, although no one has heard from or seen him for several years. Maybe he went mad or was killed by a wild beast of some kind. In spite of the uneasy feeling you have inside, you have no choice but to explore the island's interior--your village desperately needs more wood in order to sustain itself and grow. Suddenly, your military advisor brings a report that the ships of enemy tribes may already be landing at other points down the coast to establish their own settlements. Alarmed, you sense that time is of the essence: you must dominate the high seas, venture into the heart of the wild landscape to establish a base, and defend your people no matter what may lie ahead.

Description:
The name "Turtle Island" comes from how the layout of the mainland can look, especially if there are 4-6 players. There are also bonus islands with possible gold or stone. The map generates in 3 possible flavors: Asian, tropical or temperate zone. For best results, play the map size that corresponds to the number of players, or larger. Enjoy!

I have worked hard to make this map as eye-pleasing and playable as possible, so I would greatly appreciate it if you would leave a comment or review here to let me know what you think of it. If you like it, let me know. If not, please provide constructive criticism rather than just "this sucks."

Count_Ludenhof I've tried one each of the give maps quickly; the temperate one I like, quite nice aesthetically and interesting to play on, though really structured maps like this aren't normally to my taste; I won't say a lot besides, quite nice, because I have downloaded only a couple of custom maps; however, I do find turkeys+bamboo a little odd, and the trees next to the bamboo, being the same tree over and again...so, the asian one, less good in my opinion. I like the torches, and it works quite nicely on medium resources.

EDIT: Having finished a game on it though, on hard against three enemies...the enemies all stopped doing stuff once they'd exhausted their starting area, they built no navies and they never replaced their troops after their initial wave of mamelukes, knights, light cav and crossbowmen broke upon the wall which surely every player will build across that strip of landing connecting base to mainland...

Thank you for your remarks, Count_Ludenhof. It is true that the AI may have a hard time with this one. Many times it won't build a navy, and sometimes it won't figure out that it has to go inland for more wood. Human vs. human would be more of a challenge here.
russoft I am sick of posting reviews because the guidlines seem impossible to stay within. So I will leave a COMMENT on what I thought of it:

I judged this map by appearance, I didn't actually test it for playability. The RMS seemed to have very few technical problems (mine trap villagers in gold clumps because I am still learning how to make my own RMS). The only place where the map began to look...bizzare, was when I put 7 players on a huge map. The players were connected by shallows, which I think wasn't supposed to happen. Other than that, if you have a big map with 5 or fewer players, the map is very very well done. It wasn't really as "pretty" as I thought it would be. But then, when I read the description I was thinking of a different looking map. Resource placement is certainly the strong point of this map. There are limited amounts of wood on the peninsula where you begin, and then there is lots in the middle. There are surrounding islands which have at least SOME economic benefit. I was never able to do that, put resource on extra islands. So, I would say this is a strong RMS given that you are playing on a Normal or larger map with 5 or fewer players.

Well done, I am going to use it in a multiplayer game!
