RISK: Hundred Years' War
By King Bob VI

In this game, you are the French during the Hundred Years' War. You face the English and Burgundian forces. In order to win the game, you must capture every territory on the map by destroying the castle in the center (replacing it with your own). You must build units by selecting a building that is in your own territory, and pay a price of gold. Every 60 seconds, each territory produces gold.

Playability: 5
The playability in this game was magnificent. The computer players had a very well-built AI that made this game quite challenging. Also, the replay value of this game is great. That means you could play this game over and over without getting tired of it too easily.

Balance: 5
This game was very well balanced. Stated earlier, this game had a great AI that made it so this game was challenging, but not so challenging that it was impossible to beat.

Creativity: 4
This game was quite creative in its gameplay and storyline, but the RISK game style has been around for quite a while. This game offered many things that were new, but still didn't have the unique and fresh feel to the gameplay, and it felt that you were playing the same RISK game. Even so, the game is still very fun, and entertaining to play.

Map Design: 5
The map design in this game was great. It offered some pleasent eye candy, and had well blended terrain. Although the map design wasn't the best it could be, it still deserves a 5.0, because on maps such as these, too much eye candy and prettyness would get in the way of the gameplay.

Story/Instructions: 5
The story in this was good, and was historically accurate. The instructions gave you a good clue of what to do, and had some nice bonuses.

Additional Comments:
Overall: This is a very good game. I suggest you download it immediately. =)

Alright, this is my first review so bear with me here...

Playability: 5
Well, what can I say. There are no errors of any kind (except once I got 3 rams with + 120 attack on them for some reason. I think it glitched when orleans fell) and the gameplay is top notch. All units counter each other splendidly in standard AoK:TC fashion, and not only that but the cities are almost all completely balanced for the factions. One little problem is that the french have a serious lack of bowmen producing cities, and can capture a city that allows them to produce elite longbowmen. Other than that, splendid and well thought out gameplay.
Balance: 5
This map is one of the most balanced of its kind. The burgundians get their traditional crossbows and such, and the english get their longbows (except as said above when you capture one of their longbow cities). The french do seem to have an accute lack of bowmen producing cities, but that does not subtract from this map`s frantic pace and balance. The game is balanced to the point where if you leave for 3 minutes you end up losing a castle because the player is not there to counteract the AI`s attacks.
Creativity: 4
Well, there have been RISK style games before but the reason this category is a 4 and not a 3 is because of how well this author pulled off the gameplay. The unit recruitment and territories were all well put together and balanced, and thus this risk style game earns itself a 4 out of 5 for creativity.
Map Design: 5
This map is gorgeous. There really isn`t anything else to be said. While some of the rivers are a bit misplaced such as the Seine on which Paris sits, and a few cities misplaced this can be forgiven through artistic license.
Story/Instructions: 4
This is where the scenario fell a tiny bit short. The instructions were clear and concise, and the story was historically based. The one element missing from these were more in depth gameplay tips and such. Normally this would not have been enough to warrant removal of a point, but in my opinion a map of this scale, difficulty, and balance really should come with some hints or something.
Additional Comments: Overall this is one of my favorite maps of all time in the non-rpg category. It is on par with Final Hour by Yogurt, and many of the other fine maps in this category and style. It is by far the best RISK style map out there, and I recommend downloading this scenario as soon as you possibly can. Delete some stuff from your hard drive if you have to, but this map is a must have.

PLAYABILITY: 5
I hereby promote this to the map with the highest replay value! Seriously, this is GREAT. Just awesome. The whole atmosphere of the game with the "chivalric" hyperactive music, raging battles and wars on various fronts give the game an air that is unique to this, unparalelled by any other RISK, including the Crusader map. The planning before attacks, constantly having to defend your border castles, the frustration of suddenly losing a castle where you weren't paying attention.. just marvellous.

BALANCE: 5
Although some people stated it to be easy, it didn't quite feel like it, it's an all-new style of fighting and you have to micromanage on certain points very often and the pause key sure was overused during my play. But overall it was very well-to-do and deserves a 5 to me.

CREATIVITY: 5
What other RISK maps are there? A few, that's for sure. The whole system of losing, winning castles, gaining money according to castles, various units/costs etc. made this a revolutionary map. The mercenaries, attack by the Scottish, various morale factors and the whole realistic setting bring this map to a full 5 rating.

MAP DESIGN: 5
Although it didn't feature any awesome tricks, it wasn't dull! It showed a realistic country, excellent geographic accuracy and a beatiful countryside with flocks of sheep, marshes, coastal towns and more. The city designs were great and where it lacked it was compensated by the action going on, covering the ugly parts with corpses and armies quickly enough. Also, the less beatiful parts IMO are the parts where there is no actual fighting only in certain cases so it's quite acceptable even then.

STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: 5
The story is roughly about the situation of the French at the time of Joan d'Arc, and the map provides sufficient background on that. Adding to that I am a history fan and that adds for me. The instructions were over-clear with whole lists of castle incomes, unit costs, hints, a FAQ etc. Great work!

Additional Comments:
Download it. You won't regret it - it's unique.

RISK: Hundred Years War is a scenario based on the Hundred Years War which uses the Advanced RISK System by Daftpanzer. It is a bit like the board game RISK and is highly enjoyable.

Playability: 5
RISK: Hundred Years War is a wonderful and highly enjoyable scenario which can be played for hours on end. It is fun, creative, enjoyable and interesting. There are no bugs and no lag. The game is creative and has a great map design. It is improved more because of the different strategies and tactics that you have to use whilst playing. It also has a moral system which makes the game even more enjoyable. RISK: Hundred Years War is a game you will want to play again and again and again.

Balance: 5
RISK: Hundred years War is a very challenging scenario. It is a whole new style of fighting and it takes a while to get used to. You have to manage many different places at the same time, which makes it hard, crazy, interesting and enjoyable all at once. Both teams start off equally just like the rest of the scenario. It is all equal.

Creativity: 5
RISK: Hundred Years War is a very, very creative scenario. For starters what other RISK scenarios are there? If any, how many of them are as unique and enjoyable as this? Now tell me that this scenario isn’t creative. This scenario has a great use of fantastic trigger tricks. It has a great and fully detailed map design of France. There is also a wonderful and quite a historically accurate story. This map also has an Advanced RISK system created by Daftpanzer and a Morale system. There are also to good sound files which add to the game.

Map Design: 5
RISK: Hundred Years War’s map design is another strong part of the scenario. It is a fully detailed and geographically accurate design of France during the Hundred Years War. It is realistic. There are beautiful countryside’s and pretty cities. The map has a great use of elevation and cliffs. A wide range of different terrains have been used and they have been mixed extremely well. There is some great eye-candy and an outstanding use of GAIA objects. The map design is fully detailed and very realistic.

Story/Instructions: 5
RISK: Hundred Years War has an accurate and interesting story. It is based on the Hundred Years War between the English and the French. The story is fun and enjoyable. It makes the game much better and more playable. There is a long section explaining what happened in the Hundred Years War and the map includes heroes from the War like Joan of Arc, Sir Bertrand and Sir de Metz. The Instructions are clear and easy to understand. There is an FAQ in the Hints page which is really, really helpful. The Objectives are also clear and you know what to do at all points. There is also a Scouts page which helps to find important places.

Additional Comments:
RISK: Hundred years War is a fantastic scenario. Overall it is one of the most creative and enjoyable scenarios that I have played and deserves a place near the top of the “Top Rated List”. It is a whole new way of playing Age of Empires and a highly recommended download.
Download this or miss out on one of the best scenarios in the AOKH blacksmith. 5/5!

Thanks for making such a brilliant scenario.

Playablity: 5-

I liked the gameplay, for the most part. The warning about lag didn't apply to me, and that made it a very fast paced, frantic game. The strategy element is there, too. It's frustrating to see a castle of yours suddenly go off the map :/ hahaha.

Also, I lost Joan at one point (pretty early on, actually). However, I didn't notice the effect of the loss of morale - what was the effect supposed to be?

Balance: 5+
There for the most part. It got rather easy the moment I got Burgundy to switch sides, though I suppose that's a trait common to all risk-style games, so the balance score isn't penalized for this. The flippable castles was a novel idea, though it did lead to some moments of weirdness - one moment I'm losing-ish but the red castle has 1000 health left, the next I have a castle with full health and it takes out nearly half the enemy. Not really controllable though, so also no penalty.

Bonus points for bringing in the French Paladin instead of just using the standard Paladin! (Though I have no idea why the French Paladin even EXISTS within the scope of a normal game as the +20% HP from franks means the Frank Paladins (not the ones with the lances) are more powerful...)

Creativity: 5
I admit I haven't played many modded scenarios, so while I feel that Risk-style games themselves aren't a new thing outside of AoE, this particular Risk-style RTS aspect of AoE is one I haven't seen before and is a great draw factor. The flippable castles was a nice touch, and the gold gain system was interesting, though perhaps a bit too fast.

Map Design: 4
I don't know much about its geographical accuracy. Not much eye candy, but it was nice.

Story/Instructions: 5+
Didn't use the Scouts list, but had a look at it - it was very thorough. FAQ was also very complete and well compiled. Well done.
