A few of my sound files were taken from Marco Crnigoj’s campaigns (or a few other campaigns).
Some music was taken from various games I own.
Thanks to wikipedia for their article on the subject.
Special credit should go to James Chambers, as his book The Devil's Horsemen: The Mongol Invasion of Europe was the inspiration for this campaign.

Make sure you have the edited dat file in the DAT folder. The polish hero is a Beta Knight who is invisible if the empires2_x1_p1.dat is not there.
Of couse, back up you old dat file so you can go back without having to reinstall.[Edited on 02/02/07 @ 01:09 PM]

Rather similar to Tannenberg (why do all these scenario's have teutonic knights losing? it makes them seem big time losers) but enjoyable all the same. |

Sword_of_STORM, in most of these real-life battles the Teutons did lose, which is really odd since they were supposed to be Northern Europe's most powerful military machine. :-S[Edited on 07/15/08 @ 09:21 AM]

Well, hopefully you have a true copy of AoK, and it is installed on your comp. Then installing MPS should be simple.
It is sorta optional to use the mod, you will just have cavaliers in the game instead of mongol cavalry, so technically you can still play it.
The campaign comes with an edited dat file (empires2_x1_p1.dat I think is the name). Place that in your Age of empires II/DATA folder. first I suggest taking the empires2_x1_p1.dat that is in there and placing it on your desktop, so you have the backup. The teutonic hero is an "extra" unit from the dat file so if you do not put it in he will of course die Immediately.
Hope this helps... |

Playability: 4
I quite enjoyed this scenario, which is very much in the vein of Marko Crnigoj's scenarios. It's a fixed force where you are pitted against a more numerous and better armed foe, and people who like the genre will definitely enjoy this too. There are no bugs or lag, although there are a few irritating issues such as the setup of the battlefield that means it takes ages for reinforcements to have any effect and some skewed balance (see below). There is some good use of sounds and music also. All in all this is quite fun, but isn't exceptional.
Balance: 3
The balance is not great, I played on Hard difficulty and found it very easy. Even with minimal use of hit and run, I was never under undue pressure. I never felt that losing the battle was actually a serious possibility. I did have to reload once as Kadan was killed by the Polish, which improved balance but was also annoying as I wasn't told that this would cause me to lose and I had no way to stop his foolhardy charge into the enemy army as he is not under the player's control.
Creativity: 4
The scenario does well in creativity, despite being very much inspired by Marko Crnigoj and not bringing anything truly new. The use of the Mongols was unusual, I liked the omen at the start and the remounting of mangudai, although unnecessary, was not uncreative. Communication posts also deserve a mention.
Map Design: 3+
The map design is bleak and very simple. This is in accordance with the author's intention but there are a number of reasons why I didn't award an above average score. Firstly, areas such as the town and Mongol camp were also mundane. Secondly, the way the map was done meant it took overly long to carry out troop manouevres such as calling in reinforcements, something that was worsened by the fact that the battle only used up a small amount of the map. Thirdly, the map was for the most part unrealistically empty, with the odd incongruous mountain present. I did not feel enough work had been put in to justify a higher score, after taking the above into account. On the plus side, the map does make use of tactical elevations although the impact of this is minimal and offset by the flaws.
Story/Instructions: 5-
The instructions left me with only one complaint, that I was not told of the consequences of Kadan's death. Apart from that, they were satisfactory. The history was well adapted from Wikipedia and provided ample background. |

good job! good campaign!
I have some points I found on the game.
The altered empires data file plus the slp files instaled allow us to create on the normal gameplay, without using the mod, the beta knight on the stables, that uses 100 food 150 gold to be created. I don't know if its a bug but I like it too much!!
the battle occurs on two fronts, but we can just watch ours, the kadan batlle, because baidar is too far and do not fit on the screen. Maybe you could do a battle that fits, like Marco's Towton campaign.
Put light cavalry to strike face to face Tk and beta knights is madness. of course they will die kickly.
you could do a trigger for the archers to fire and run away like Marco's Hattin campaign, it would be very "Mongol", and the campaign would become more realistic.
The teutonic order stops at the bridge without any formation, and its easy and boring to kill one by one. At this time, we can run on the enemy line and kill the polish cavalry and infantry at will. It have to be fixed. You could do a trigger, like Marco's Towton campaign(damn, this man is reference to all!) that the soldiers turn back when cross the line of battle.
Kadan runs alone and got killed by the polish because our archers and baidar do not come in time to protect him.
The enemy heros are in defense stance. Bad! we kill them easy with archers because he and his scort do not run against us.
The poison fields are to small and is avoided every time by the enemies. Its hard to make them cross these fields.
do a v2 with these fixes and we will have a campaign to be remebered. |

I have played again and I found another annoying thing. To win this batlle in a boring but possible way we just have to:
1 - let the battle happens on randon.
2 - take your mans, or just the mangudai and ride on the direction of baidar.
3 - when you arrive the baidar's battle is over, but you just go there to avoid the blue polish cavalry
4 - at there turno north towards the king
5 - attack his scouts from the left flank
6 - once they die, attack the king. finish. the game is over without fight with blue ou red polish, and without face the teutonic order.
Consider the tips I gave above. And solve this triggers that make all units to go to the same point and fight messy. (if you wish, of course :) ) |

Hey Korvus, thanks for commenting, sorry to get to this kind of late ;)
Many of your suggestions may have validity, but this scenario was my first submission quite some time ago. As such my skills have improved since then and this isn't a work I am that particularly happy with, so I am certainly not going to go back and update it.
I do leave it here as it is still an average scenario which may provide some enjoyment for downloaders. That said, I have new scenarios I work on now, and going back and redoing old ones is both unlikely and not even a good habit I believe. |
