Minamoto and his Clan is a campaign based on the conquest of Japan. You are Minamoto, who will have to crush Taira Clan.
The first impression it gave me was simplicity. It hasn´t got an incredible introductory bitmap, but a simple and useful one. The instructions were simple and scanty. There were only 2 hints, and all the messages said the same in different words. During the game, the goals weren´t very clear, and sometimes I didn´t know what to do. Finally, the Victory and Lose messages were scarce. The author should have improved this aspect, so it has a scraped three.
The initial situation was the typical one: a town center, some villagers and houses around, Minamoto and a explorer... The first 4 minutes I didn´t have targets, so I started gathering as much as I could. Then a messenger appeared... following by 15 samurais! I was in the Dark Age, so I could do nothing. Next time I started exploring with the horse. I found a merchant that offered me some units. Suddenly, some samurais appeared and killed the merchant... after that, the messenger crossed the bridge and the samurais murdered him. At the third time, the messenger arrived alive and I could continue playing. The rest of the scenario wasn´t special: you had to defeat your enemies, basically.
I noticed some tricks, like the waterfall, the merchant, and a kind of cliff trap. Nothing special. So in creative it has a 3 and in playability a 2, because the initial bugs and the carency of creativity (The scenario was the typical Build and Destroy!).
The terrain was good, but without arriving to the point of "Wonderful". It´s better than a RM with some tricks, but nothing else. It has a 4.
The difficulty was high. With luck, the called "bodyguards" didn´t attack you at the begining. After that, the rest of the scenario wasn´t easy, but a little difficult, considering that I was playing in "Easy" level - really all the levels had the same difficulty!
Minamoto and his Clan isn´t a wonderful and amazing campaign, but if you are bored, perhaps it would be usefull in order to pass time in rainy days... it doesn´t stand out in any facet, remaining like another scenario among thousands...
Positive points
2 terrain tricks
Negative points
It doesn´t stand in any place
All the levels had the same difficulty |

It may not be that good but this is my first campaign and 3.0 is a pretty good start off. Just wait a few months until Age of Empires II the Conquerors expansion set Rise of the Seljuks is put on the net with four new civilisations and five new campaigns. |
