The battle to destroy the enemy camp while defending your own was great fun. I found it really challenging and had to restart several times. The final battle against Magus was a little anti-climactic as ranged units could finish him off without any difficulty. Thanks.

Finally a comment.!!..Suprises me it took so long. This map is one of my more elaborate. I like playing it even if no one else does...

Don't take it to heart. I recently commented on a scenario and was the first person to do so in six years.

Have just finished playing Magus. Good scenario, challenging and creative( with lots of fireballs magic effects). When I realized that the mages had an area of attack I didn't attack them with my army only with my knights, and that saved a great deal of my army. The battle to destroy the enemy pavilions while defending the town was difficult and I required a couple of restarts. Even then I had to create stone walls in front of my gates and the bomb towers killed prectically everything except bomb cannons. Then I attacked the camp with prctically everything and still lost one of my knights :( and much later realized that my gold miners had been killed off but I still continued... The next three or four challenges were pretty straightforward. I got my two monks and converted many paladins :) then used everything else to hit the other things around the towers while I went at magus with Loxx and one Knight, the commander and the converted paladins as they were the only ones which could survive 100 hp damage. tried to convert Magus but it didn't work.. anyway had great fun playing this game, took much less time than your maze one.

P.S. I played on hard difficulty

I played this game about a month ago but am reviewing it now because it is requested in the review thread.

Playability: 4

'Magus' is a good scenario featuring wizards, fireballs and magic effects. Since I like such stuff, I naturally had great fun playing Magus. I liked the spells and surprises. It was quite different from other B @ D's because you could only train feudal age troops against an advanced army.

Balance: 5

Balance is really the strong point of Jas the Mace1's scenario's. In the beginning you have a large army which gets devastated by spells. Then you have to destroy a spawn attack by destroying the enemy camp while defending your own town, that is pretty difficult because of the low pop limit and the fact that your troops are just feudal age and the enemy is in imperial age. The use of bomb towers and siege onagers for defence really saved my town, and in the enemy attack I lost one of my main knights. After that it becomes rather less difficult but killing the mages are still challenging because of their spells.

Creativity: 4
Well magic, fireballs etc are nothing new but I still liked the execution of the spells. One of the best parts was the poem that the monk recites to get rid of the magical barrier, if you made that one up it's really good. The idea of spring in winter as both 'evil magic' and 'good magic' is good.

Map Design: 4
The map is set in wintertime and is mostly snow but some parts are elaborately designed, such as the ruined city, enemy camp etc. Only could be better.

Story/Instructions: 4
Well there was a story, but it wasn't a good one , it was simply that 'defeat the wizard who killed your father'. Also, the instructions by themselves weren't enough, I had to look at the scouts section for the hints. The instructions were pretty repetitive too.

Edit: changed this rating after looking at the review guide. Since there are story and instructions, I'll give it 4

Additional Comments:

Overall a good game, especially for those who like fantasy RPG's
