As you said, it is an "easy win for a new player" and probably you intended the below observations.
Still, a new player can choose standard difficulty. Maybe this works better as a Multiplayer, but the starting positions are too unbalanced. In Single Player the red player defeats early green and then yellow, playing moderate, while player 1 can build up, it is easy. ;-) None of the comp players advanced to Imperial Age. The standard AI needs all kind of resources near the town center to advance quickly. Green has wood, stone and deer nearby, missing sheep, forage bushes and gold. Yellow has forage bushes, deer and sheep, missing stone and gold. Red has all, forage bushes, sheep, deer, gold and stone near the town center. Another handicap for the comp players are the starting diplomacy settings. Only yellow is enemy to player 1 while player 1 is enemy to all.
Edit: It plays much better on hard, the green player survives, digs gold south of his starting position, and red defeats only yellow. Still the above (played moderate first) holds truth also here, a tad too easy, and no attacks until Imperial Age.
