"Gilles le Breton" is a quick, 15-20 minute scenario I made mainly to tell the prologue of the beginnings of Bretonnia. For those of you who do not play Warhammer, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but this scenario is half game, half computerized retelling of the legend of Gilles the Uniter. I will be making multiple scenarios, each one telling another piece of the legend, so despite the fact that this particular scenario is fairly short, not all of them will be.
This scenario was geared towards Warhammer players, and for those who don't play it, this will probably confuse you somewhat. But it provides some quick, fun entertainment, some tactical challenge, and a basic knowledge/history of Bretonnia.
Hope you like it!
************************************************
Long ago in the Old World, in the lands that had been discovered and abandoned millenia ago by the Elves, human tribes began to settle the area that would eventually become Bretonnia. These tribes quickly became civillized and were very proficient and skilled in the riding and taming of horses, giving birth to the tradition of warriors mounted on horseback, the first Knights.
As the Bretonni, as these tribes were called, grew stronger, they began to build powerful castles and walled cities, and maintained armies of Knights and Peasant militias. This was necessary, for the Bretonnians were not alone: they were surrounded by foul and vicious monsters, such as the Orcs, chaos-mutated Beastmen, and Undead abominations that served the will of evil necromancers. The Bretonni fought valiantly against the monsters roaming their lands, and for a time, were successful in maintaining peace throughout their territories.
After many years however, increasing Orc attacks began to overwhelm many of the Bretonnians, who had not unified as a nation but were still independent states and cities. Only the strongest of these Dukedoms survived, and even they did not last much longer than their doomed bretheren. One by one, the Lords of the Bretonni fell as their lands were consumed by fire and death as the great maw of the Orcish hordes spread throughout the lands.
But in the city of Bastonne, a young Lord named Gilles would rise up to lead his people to greatness. Together with his long time friend Thierulf and the famed Landuin of Mousillon, Gilles set out to rid his lands of the Orcs or die trying...
