This is the second scenario in my ongoing campaign revolving around the exploits of the Bretonnian hero Gilles and his companions as they struggle to free their land of Bretonnia. This scenario is based on the Warhammer fantasy game, so if you play that you will have some more knowledge of the background than a new person. This particular scenario will take anywhere from half an hour to an hour, depending on your skill level. The scenario was made with the "moderate" difficulty level in mind, but feel free to adjust the levels to make it easier or harder.
The first scenario can be downloaded here:

After breaking the siege of Bastonne and receiving the blessing of the Lady of the Lake, Gilles and his companions continue their epic quest to save Bretonnia from her death throes. Their journey now leads them to the besieged city of Bordeleaux, surrounded on all sides by Orcs...

'Gilles le Breton - Act 2' is a B&D scenario, which is set in a fantasy world. It is shorter than most B&D's and very different from normal random map games.
Playability: 4
I enjoyed playing this game. First the player has to save a village from a number of orcs. I built a huge base immediately with 3 castles and trained lots of archers and was easily able to resist all attacks. After a while my gold went down and I found loads which was guarded by orcs, which I easily finished off. After that I went to imperial and defeated the red player. One thing which I noticed (probably due to custom AI) was that the red player kept rebuilding his walls so that I had trouble getting my army in during castle age.
The final siege (or rescue) was quite easy as I had deleted all my villagers and had a large army.
One playability issue was that when I played the first time, the orcs said 'I am neutral to thee.. please be neutral to me' or something (characteristic of standard AI ). I restarted the game and it didn't happen.
Overall the game was exciting and small for a B&D (I took a little more than an hour to win).
Balance: 4
I played this scenario on original Aok - hardest. It was a pretty good challenge. I found killing off the intial wave of orcs rather hard and I had to reload a few times because my heroes died. However I built 3 castles and with the huge load of resources created a flood of longbowmen and other troops and was able to hold off the red orcs quite easily. After I captured the gold mines from the orcs, I was able to go to imperial and defeat the red orcs quite quickly. Playing on original Aok, the scenario was harder, but not much. They still kept attacking me with militia and skirmishers and trebuchets. One thing which was more annoying than challenging was that the AI constantly rebuilt it's walls, trapping half my army inside.
The lifting of the seige wasn't too much of a problem as I had built an army of 40+ elite longbowmen and some halbs, they killed everything rather quick. So, overall a 4 for balance.
Creativity: 4
The scenario was quite creative , having the usual aspects of B&D like defending, beseiging, rescuing a city etc. One thing which I like particularly was that I had to fight in order to get control of the gold mines. The storyline is also good. It would have been nice to have 3 different cavalry units (paladin, knight, cataphract etc) instead of having frankish paladin type for all 3 heroes.
Map Design: 5
The best part of the scenario. In my opinion this is an ideal design for a B&D scenario. Well done forests with deer/bushes, mountain/cliff regions with lots of gold/stone mines for orcs, no random gold mines here and there. The mountainous region had only a few entrances and the AI kept building walls at the chokepoints. The city design is a bit plain as it has only road terrain, but it matches the gameplay perfectly.
Story/Instructions: 4
The instructions and hints were good enough. Having a scenario bitmap was an additional plus.
The story was quite good and well written in the history section, however the player should play the first part to understand it fully.
Additional Comments:
This game is a challenging and entertaining scenario which I would recommend for download.
However you should play it with Aok and not TC so that it would be harder.[Edited on 05/15/07 @ 02:07 AM]
