Europe In Flames

Author File Description
Ensemble_Nut
File Details
Version: The Conquerors
Style: Role Playing Strategy
Year: Unknown.

France and Britain, two of the most powerful nations in Europe, and therefore the world, have gone to war.

The French think that the British killed their King.

The British think that the French killed their king.

But is there more to it than that? Someone thinks so...

***

This is my first scenario, even if it is a cutscene. Please review or send me some comments (or just post them below) with any helpful ideas, or constructive criticism, etc. Thanks,

Hamish This is pretty good for your first scenario.

Map design was nice and so was the trigger work.

Maybe, after a scene has ended you could remove the map revealers for that certain area, this has a nice effect.

Also, there are no "British Alps", the Alps stretch through a lot of European countries, including France, Germany and Italy but there are no British Alps.

Thanks for that, Hamish. In this campaign, as far as the climate and landscape goes in this whole saga, a good part of it is fictional. For example, in the next scenario which i've started designing on, it's snowing in one place, and it's desert in the other, but thanks for the tip.
robiscatitirisca can u please tell me whre i shoul put the files?

Sorry about that...anyway, when you have extracted the file, cut + paste the cpx. file to C Drive (hard drive) > Program files > Microsoft games > AoE II > Campaign. If somebody knows a better way then feel free to post.
Hamish Yes, extract the files directly to the Age of Empires II / Campaign directory from Winzip.

Europe In Flames is definetly an... intresting scenario. It is evident that it is the author's first work, and it shows some potential, even though the scenario itself was nothing special. It was also very short, only 5 minutes.

Playability: 3
Well, I can't say I was exactly intrigued by the cut-scene. It had it's moments, like the dojo and the soldiers there. But it was still a mediocre cut-scene. Especially annoying was the fact that sometimes there were no "Change view" triggers, so you had to move the mouse yourself. Also I couldn't understand, why I had to look at a horse for 30 seconds in the beginning. A 4 here would be way too high of a mark, but it ain't that bad to get a 2 either.

Balance: 5
According to the tutorial I rate this 5.

Creativity: 3-
There were a couple of trigger tricks, but they weren't anything special either. No creative map designing to be honest. So it gets a 3- here.

Map Design: 3
The map design had it's moment as well, but still there were large batches of Grass 1 and Road. Almost no eye candy, save for the flowers on the road.

Story/Instructions: 4-
Well, the Guidelines say I must give a 4, though I don't think it really deserves one. There was no history or anything (I know that a cut-scene doesn't need hints or scouts). The story was somewhat clichéd, and easy to see from a mile away.

Additional Comments:

I don't think this particular scenario is very download worthy, but it is nevertheless a great start for a designer, and shows potential as well. Keep it up, and one day you'll have those 5.0's coming in.
