Roland's Story demo

Author File Description

File Details
Version: The Conquerors
Style: Role Playing Strategy
The demo of Roland\'s Story. Roland is a frenchman that is about to go into the first Crusade. It might be scary, or it could be fun. Roland records it all in a journal, and he goes through all of the Crusader missions along with the army of France. Demo version, as well as the first scenario of the campaign... soon the entire campaign will be out. I hope you enjoy the demo.

-Roland's Story-Demo

This is a demo for a campaign where you are Roland, a French knight, participating in the Crusades to capture Jerusalem from the Muslims.
Playability: The scenario was entertaining and had no major bugs. The optional objectives helped the playability. The only minor bug was if you attacked the main Thief Guild camp before finding the locked gate you have no clue what Roland is talking about when he says, "Now we'll be able to open the gate." Other than that minor bug great playability.
My Suggestions: Fix the minor bug. Making something like a secret trail into the forest leading to something would be neat.
Balance: The balance was okay, a little on the easy side. I lost very few of my soldiers. The thieves weren't much of a challenge with their militia and archers against my knights and throwing axemen. The Lombards were more of a challenge but they were too few and spread out.
My Suggestions: Add more Lombards. Upgrade the thieves' archers to crossbowmen and militia to men-at-arms.
Creativity: This had some creative elements, such as the priest who banged his head on the wall, which I thought was funny, but was basically a pretty normal fixed force scenario. The creativity was not bad, but not especially great either.
My Suggestions: Add more creative elements. Too much of the scenario is walking along a path and killing things.
Map Design: The map design was good. Gaia objects were used, and shallows were used to create swamp effects. A very good map, the only thing keeping it from a 5 is the lack of terrain mixing. There was too much grass 1.
My Suggestions: Mix terrain. Add some different grasses and dirts to the areas that are right now just grass 1.
Story/Instructions: The instructions were very clear and the objectives were updated often. The story was well-researched and was interesting. A perfect score here.
My Suggestions: My only suggestion is to add some plot twists to the story, such as the Lombards deciding to help protect Genoa against the thieves.
In Conclusion: A very promising demo. The full campaign should be very good.

Good Points:
  • Nice map

  • Great story

  • Clear instructions

Bad Points:
  • Too easy

  • Could be more creative
Dave3377 Roland was Chalamaigns rear gaurd whom though praised for his valliance and courage, was not praised for his intelect, because he was ambushed and failed to notify the rest of the army, or somehting like that.

It's from a french balad I read about but have never heard.
laz123 Very good game. Thanks. I did have to destroy 1 gate though.
