A Holy War: Evil Monks

Author File Description
File Details
Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Style: Fixed Force

Holy War:

   Evil Monks

It is a period of civil war. Following the mysterious death of King Pierre of France, an organization of evil priests has assumed absolute power. Les Prêtres de Mal(The Priests of Evil), headed by Archbishop Stephane, are killing all those who resist. (Being converted is no longer an option.) Meanwhile, in the Forest of Arbres, an army of rebels, headed by the late king's finest military commander, is preparing for war. A great battle will ensue, but which side shall win? The power rests with you. You will take command of Général Brun's army, and you of course will either emerge victorious, or be defeated.

I moved the file from Single Player Scenarios. We will move the file to the respective category after the completion of the campaign.

Edit: I moved the file back after the update of 12/23/07.

Your comments are not illegal but many of them are spam, you find HG's definition of spam in the Code of Conduct. I asked you not to make announcements that you will download a file and/or comment on files without viewing the scenario first. Therefore, I assume that you viewed or even played the file and now you ask if it is historical.

It says that the events play during a time of theocracy in France after the death of king Bob (typical French name for their kings?). You play as General Brown (another French name?). In the scenario, you attack monks with an army of Cataphracts and Onagers, while the monks are 'singing' and convert parts of your troops to their side. Is that a real historical campaign? The answer is no, it is fiction.

I played the updated version, I like the opening cut-scenes, the map design is much better, and story/instructions above average. :)

However, the whole concept of the game was better with original Age of Kings. I attacked only with both heroes, the monks cannot convert them and I won in 9 minutes and 45 seconds on hard, did not lose a single unit. Better no heroes for the player it spoils the game play. I prefer if the monks could convert your units to have some fighting as in the earlier version. I would disable Heresy but give Faith to player 1 so it takes longer to convert. Then test that setting and add or remove units for player 1 and 2 to balance the scenario.

thanks tanneur. i will try to get an update soon.

updated. The heroes are still there, but you cannot use them until the middle of the battle. At that point it is more fair because the monks have gained many "new" soldiers, because heresy was removed.
