I'm having trouble beating a strategy that one of my friends is using. He uses the Koreans and is named "Adriel" in the replay. He puts siege onagers and monks in a defensive square surrounded by war wagons, the "Doughnut of Death". I know that I am only an beginner player, but I believe that my stategy against this is sound.
The main problem is that the war wagons take up alot of physical space and protect the onagers from any direct attack. As you can see in the replay, my hussars get mowed down when I try to rush the siege onagers. The wagons are weak. If I could just take out the onagers the whole thing would come crashing down.
This game is the best example and look at the his strategy. I got mowed down and made alot of mistakes, but my main questions are: Has anyone seen this done before? What would be the best way to counter it?
Not that I am pro but what civ. do you usually use? possibly make hordes of cheap stuff and use catapults behind them!

The main reason why you lost is the absence of trade, you need more gold to counter and win. You played Mongols, to stop the 'Doughnut of Death' you should mix Pikemen with the Hussars. The problem with your mix of Cavalry Archers and Hussars is that the Cavalry Archers are too weak against War Wagons and an easy prey for Siege Onagers. Direct the Pikemen against War Wagons and the Hussars against Siege Onagers and Monks during the battles. Try a change of civilization against your friend. Spanish, Persians, Celts, Huns, Goth, Byzantines and British have the advantage that you could use Halberdiers instead of Pikemen. In addition, British Elite Longbowmen behind an attack formation of Hussars and Halberdiers and you will have 'sweet doughnuts for breakfast'. Do not use the Line Formation for your attacks to reduce casualties from Siege Onagers, try Staggered and Flank attacks in a random order until you know which the right one is. Intensive trade with your allies and any mix of stable, barrack units against the Doughnut of Death and your friend will change strategy. ;)

Thanks Tanneur. The Britons strategy sounds pretty good. You are absolutely right. I lost due to lack of trade. That was the first team multiplayer game I'd ever played, so I didn't understand the power of trading.
I used the Mongols because I thought the Mangudia could snipe off the onagers with their attack bonus.
Anyway, thanks for the advice.

My dad does that sometimes, The best strategy I've found is to use Bombard Cannons on the onagers because bombards are long range and have good attack.
Never do that near towns unless you have a castle nearby, because villagers can poke the cannons to death.

Funny how that James was in dark age so long into the game, he was cursing about not being able to play ten minutes when it was almost not an hour. Drew I would say you were the only good one on your team.

You could be goths then take advantage of the fact that infantry are 25% cheaper and train nearly instantly with techs and just flood him with halberds. There were a couple times when you should of put your troops on the staggered stance. Koreans get onagers with 8+3 range there about as good as the celts onagers.

Well, actually Goth infantry are 35% cheaper. 25% would have been more balanced.
