“After the death of the great king, power was handed to his last, fat-bellied son Rodwig. Rodwig was derisively known as the pious because he was unable to govern the country. First, he handed power to his three sons, but after just one year he changed his mind, deciding that his new-born son from his recent marriage should also be considered. This caused conflict, plotting and civil war against the father and also among the brothers. The vast realm created by the great king disintegrated ...
Meanwhile, things were also stirring in the north. The people of the North Sea attacked the coast with their fast ships, plundering cities and settlements. Since nobody could stand in their way, they finally settled the land themselves.
Among these people were the Jarags, who were led by the guards of a cult of monks. Nobody knows now where they came from or when they came. On the North Sea coast they built an enormous castle on a hill of rock and named it Bailthor.
Whenever their fires could be seen on the horizon, people would flee so that they did not end up in the flames. Fear and terror spread.
Those who were in the fight and escaped with their lives were never the same again. It was told that warriors jumped out of the fire, to make the guards, who neither experienced pain nor hesitated to strike with their weapons so many of their opponents were shocked and knocked to the ground before they could react.
They did not see to be from this world. Human blood did not flow in their veins. Rumours spread that the powers possessed by the guards made them men and master over fire and flames.
In order to escape their anger, the ruling families and kings nearby submitted to the Jarags and made large tributes to them. A new cult spread seemingly inexorably...
In order not to lose their position of religious power in the world, it was one of the Order of Knights who felt a strong power in him. But it was not religion alone, even if it was a good pretext, which induced the grand master of the order to explore the guards’ secret powers over fire and flames.
Since the kings and the Jarag’s ruling families were not against each other, it made little sense to ask them for support, particularly since it was also not necessary. The Order of Knights ranked among the wealthiest secret organisations of their time. As soon as the grand master of the order called for a campaign, many followed him. Thus one of the largest professional armies in history was formed against opponents, opponents who one didn’t exactly know and actually also didn’t know how to fight against ...”

This campaign was originally submitted to the German website AgeArena. It was translated into English by Stephen Richards (the German voiceovers remain) so any textual errors, omissions or incomprehensible instructions are due solely to him. He chose to translate it because:
"Chrombasia is a riproaring game, up there with the best. It's crammed with varied gameplay, superbly worked-out challenges, creativity, and all on a map design as good as any I've seen, and with a remarkable story to boot. I think it deserves to be opened up to a bigger audience and I'm sure once you've played it you'll agree."
Stephen would like to thank Andreas for letting him loose on his masterful design, DiGiT's Trigger Studio, various online translaters and dictionaries, his rusty school-level German, and his mother with her rather-better German.
Enjoy! |

Chrombasia – The two Relics is a great scenario and highly enjoyable. I loved every aspect of it; especially the bloodthirsty battles. I played it for hours on end without stopping. Chrombasia is a game you would want to play again and again.
Balance: 5
The Balance was great. It is very challenging and take quite a few restarts even on standard but it is not impossible. You need to use almost every type of unit offered and you also need to use elevation advantages. Chrombasia is a great and challenging scenario.
Creativity: 5
The Scenario is very creative. It comes with its own custom AI and a huge Sound Folder. There are voiceovers which are unfortunately in German, but they are not need to play the scenario. The Scenario itself has many cool trigger tricks and eye-candy. It has a beautiful map design and a great story. I especially liked the idea of being able to buy your soldiers yourself.
Map Design: 5
The Map Design is awesome. It is so beautiful I think I could marry it. It is fully of awesome elevation and cliffs. There is incredible eye-candy and a fantastic use of GAIA objects. The terrain Mixing too was brilliant. Chrombasia has one of the best map designs ever.
Story/Instructions: 5
In this story we step out of homes and into the world of Chrombasia. This story is so good it makes you feel like you are actually there. It is a very interesting, fun, entertaining and enjoyable story filled with bloodthirsty battles and cool characters. There is also a pre-story in a word document which gives the player a background on the story and characters. The Instructions too are Wonderful. They tell me exactly what to do. I never got stuck once. There is also a really helpful Hints page which will guide you along if you do get stuck.
Additional Comments:
Chrombasia is a masterpiece that should be played by everyone. It is a MUJST Download and one of the Best things in the Blacksmith.
Thank you aMa for this wonderful piece of beauty!

'Chrombasia - the Two Relics' is a single player scenario, designed by Age Arena's own Andreas Marscheider, the author of the 2007 Blacksmith release 'Halfdan and the Inheritance of the Ynglings'.
It is a fictitious story set in the realm of Chrombasia where an unknown enemy has settled. Intrigue, mystery and fantasy are the three words that describe this masterpiece. Can you retrieve the two relics believed to give the enemy their power over flame and terror?
PLAYABILITY: With exemplary translation by Stephen Richards, 'Chrombasia - The Two Relics' serves the best of both worlds, with its immensely challenging game play complimented by gorgeous map design, and the still German voice-overs, which undoubtedly add to the flavor of the game. Hours of game play are filled only with mystery and intrigue and there are many twists to push the story along, while hidden dangers lurk along every path and offer a challenge for even the most experienced players. It is sometimes a sturdy challenge to controlling your small hand-picked force of men and other beings of the fantasy realm, wherein the utmost concentration is called for. Not a bad thing, but having to reload a dozen times in more than just a few cases calls for better difficulty dynamic triggering with the respective difficulties. In a sentence, this is an absolute joy to play and the intrigue of this fictitious story always kept me looking forward. I encountered minor bugs. 5
BALANCE: From the moment go, 'Chrombasia' is about as hard as anything you're ever likely to encounter here at the Blacksmith, and I've played most of them. Even on moderate difficulty the scenario is very challenging, frustratingly so at times. From the moment your troops set foot on the mysterious island, you're encountered with nothing short of intense micromanagement and constant reloads, a harbinger of the trend to come. Completing an objective is never an easy if not simple thing, and narrow paths dotted with strategically-placed units cause many reloads and you'll always have to take a step back and rethink your strategy; indeed luck plays some part here. It's sometimes a slog making it to objectives but in hindsight it is really quite refreshing that nothing was ever a walk-over; you had to bleed to progress. Victory is so much the sweeter. 4
CREATIVITY: Indeed, there is something about this scenario that sets it apart from the rest, with its rich, highly-tailored map design, colourful story line and numerous game mechanics that add to the immerse and atmosphere that is 'Chrombasia'. I can only shudder with the thought of the amount of hours the author has put into this, and it shows impeccably. The abundance of sound effects, despite the dialogue featuring in German, only adds to my delight. 5+
MAP DESIGN: This magnificent design breathes life; you feel the crunch of snow under your feet, smell its purifying coldness through your nostrils, and sense the dread of a land rotted under a mysterious invader's tread. Terrain mixing and object placement are all done to literal perfection. The technical, strategic part of the design compliments game play to the letter, and it was refreshing to feature multiple paths to an objective, in a mysterious and always perilous landscape. 5+
STORY/ INSTRUCTIONS: Despite being a familiar tale, this is fresh, intriguing, and always keeping me battle it out just so I can see how it's all going to end. There is nothing here that picks at me as being incomplete, and there are always things occurring in-game to keep the scenario exciting. Instructions were well-written and despite one or two personal problems always enough to get the player through. 5
CONCLUSION: This is a Blacksmith classic, a deserved 'Best of', and an inspired design. I also recommend the author's previous work 'Halfdan and the Inheritance of the Ynglings'. Another highly-acclaimed design here at the Blacksmith, with translation, as always, by Stephen Richards.
In a sentence - This is beautifully-crafted, stunningly so. 'Art' might be nearer to the mark.
In closing - A must download.[Edited on 06/05/18 @ 08:15 AM]
