A batch file is a text file containing a sequence, list or batch of commands/instructions, which executes one after another, for a computer operating system. Batch files run by the COMMAND.COM program of DOS and Windows, they can only run with the Windows operating system. Macintosh uses AppleScript, for IBM it is an EXEC and for UNIX the shell script. However, a warning, do not open unknown batch files on your hard disk or in e-mail attachments because they contain executable commands. Anyway, an install script for .RMS files is unnecessary, most people know to unzip an .RMS to the Random folder and for those that do not, an install instruction in the description and/or read me does the trick too. |

Townsmen is a Random map which is similar to the ES Fortress Random Map. Each player starts off with a town, full of houses, farms, etc. It is the fist player made Random map that I have seen which creates towns for the players.
Visual Appeal: 4
The map looks very good. It is temperate landscape covered in forests and different types of grass. It is filled with cliffs and has some good elevation. It also has a lake in the centre. It has some ‘islands’ on it and they are connected by shallows. The towns that the players start off with however are too tight. There are too many buildings in it. It spoils the rest of the maps beautiful design
Playability: 4
The game is extremely fun to play. It is a game you can play over and over and over again for hours and hours and hours. However because the towns have too many buildings in them it means that if you want to expand you town you must build out side of the walls. Also you start off with all the main building like Barracks, Stable, Archery Range and even a Castle. You also start off with sheep, 3 villagers and a trade cart. Most of these things are Ok but I don’t see the point of starting with a trade cart and adding a castle takes out all of the fun of being in a castle age rush. Apart from this the game is great fun to play.
Additional Comments:
A very enjoyable Random map which is great fun to play. A highly recommended download.

You start with a large base. Other than that, it's a pretty normal map.
Theme: 2
It's supposed to be a nice busy town. Which it is. But due to the way the buildings are laid out, everything has 1-block or no gap between them. This makes building inside your fortifications difficult (I just built everything outside). You start with a Castle, which is a nice addition, but that doesn't mean it's in the right spot to actually do anything. It's often at the back of the base.
Interestingly, a House, a Farm, and a Market all shared the same spot, which wasn't actually too buggy.
Furthermore, the level of squalor makes trading with an AI extremely difficult, as they don't have the sense to make a clear path to their market. (I was only able to trade in large quantities when they got bashed & a path was cleared :P).
That said, I understand it would be very difficult - nigh on impossible - to create a nice, well-ordered and easy to access city using an RMS.
Visual Appeal: 2
Nothing really interesting at all. There's a lake in the middle that serves absolutely no purpose at all. The cities are too dense & full of squalor to look pretty.
Playability: 3
Arabia with walls and buildings. = Fast Castle/Imp is the only real way to go. It's nothing special.
Additional Comments:
Just... a general MEH map. Nothing special, nothing ghastly.... meh. |
