Battles of Middle Earth is probably the best mod for Lord of the Rings in the Blacksmith. It is a total conversion mod, meaning that it changes almost every unit. This mod however is unfinished, as it has been in the making for nearly 5 years and over time the original authors lost interest in the mod, or didn't have time to continue it.
The graphics for the mod are excellent, befitting the LOTR theme. I especially liked the forests and the gaia eyecandy. The buildings are also decent, though there are many that are still unmodified and do stand out, mostly feudal age buildings ( though most of the castle/imperial buildings are changed ). The units all look really good. I especially loved the Ent, Balrog and Rohan knight
Although it is a total conversion, there are no unit stats changed, often leading to misfits in units. For example the ent still attacks like a conquistador, and the militia becomes a dark rider but still moves slowly. There are few icon changes and no language.dll changes, so units are not renamed.
However it is still very useful for making LOTR scenarios, a lot more than the original Aok.
Overall: Very good, but needs stats editing and is unfinished in many ways.[Edited on 06/14/08 @ 09:11 AM]

Some graphics are a bit crapped, but hey, this is really cool! I still don't know what are these round relic thingies, and why should pikemen with banners would be able to heal and convert, but well... There are no dat changes.
Is it possible that one of these dark tall wonders could have a Sauron's eye thingy overlay??? It might look really really cool![Edited on 05/30/08 @ 02:34 PM]

The rounded relic thingies are Palantir I think.
It would be great if someone made a list of all the things changed and modified language.dlls appropriately. |

The relics have been replaced by Silmarils, the "holy jewels" created by Fëanor.
Very nice to see this Mod has finally been released after all these years ;-) thanks a lot Draugear, Dionix, Jorgito and all. |
