Overall Rating: 5.0
Note: I really want to rate it higher than a 5, but I can’t…
Playability: (5)
I really enjoyed playing this short scenario. I began to play it not knowing what a mini-game is. Apparently, they are full stories jammed into 20 game minutes. Incredibly short game time, but it was still quite an enjoyable scenario to play. The incredible history, which I will detail later in the review, really went a long ways into getting me deeper into the game. The ending was also a surprise (I won’t say what happens, so that I don’t ruin it for others).
Balance: (5)
Well, it definitely wasn’t too easy. You gave a very detailed and helpful description of who should play the game on what difficulty level, and I found that it fit me well (I played on moderate). The forces of the enemy were not weak, but they were not impossible. When the trebuchet came out, I sent one of my heroes to kill it, and was shocked to discover that it had been given way too many hitpoints to be killed in that manner. I also knew that if I devoted my forces to destroying the trebuchet, then the enemy’s other forces would overwhelm my defenses. I survived with very few men left, but I still managed to survive. Well balanced.
Creativity: (5)
Incredible. Absolutely incredible. The use of custom data files and beta units provided for an unbelievably unique scenario. The story and background information was amazing, a never-before-seen realm. The sounds which were used added an incredible amount of depth to the scenario’s storyline, and they were appropriate for each and every instance in which they were used. I loved the whole thing, and I found a multitude of new and creative aspects and ideas. Very well done.
Map Design: (5)
In a scenario with this much action, some people would overlook the map design, and dismiss it as irrelevant. This scenario, however, needed detailed, meticulous scenery to show the player where you were, and to give the sense of a wintery defense, being put on by a band of resolute natives. The map design found in this scenario not achieved this goal, but surpassed it. Very well put together, and a very effective aesthetic tool.
Story/Instructions: (5)
This was the best part of your scenario, and, if it were possible, I would have rated it a 6 out of 5. I have never before seen a storyline of such depth and creativity. It is almost as if you wrote a full book about it, thinking out every detail of both the war and the pre-war history, and then made a scenario out of one of the scenes from the novel. It is incredibly detailed and precise. Very well done here.

Playability: 5-
Despite its small size, this scenario is fun to play. As you would expect from a mini game, the tempo is fast and there is a lot of action. The author excels in this area, and the defend-the-spot style gameplay is very entertaining if you like the style. However, the gameplay is not revolutionary, and after a while it gets a little repetitive. The enemy attack does not really vary and once you apply the correct tactic, any replay value is gone. I also felt that the author should have made more of the data-editing techniques, as at the moment they are practically unnoticeable and probably not worth the installation hassle.
Balance: 5
The game is very well balanced, with the difficulty levels ranging from really quite easy to brutally hard. Moderate level is quite challenging without being frustrating.
Creativity: 4
The author has used a quite well trodden concept, and there is nothing really new here. However, there is a nice little innovation with the trebuchet missiles, and the story is interesting enough for the scenario to gain a 4 in this category. Ideally I would have liked to see a little more creativity in the gameplay itself, which is very similar to most defend-the-spot scenarios.
Map Design: 4
The map is a reasonable representation of a winter map. It also has tactical value, and for victory the player definitely needs to make use of the terrain. However for the most part it is a little bland and unpolished, and on such a small map this is quite noticeable. One irritation was that I didn't notice a gap in the wall to the far left as it is rather unclear, which was a bit of a problem.
Story/Instructions: 5-
The story is well written, and like many of the author's creations it contains an element of romance. The author has also taken care to provide a lot of extra detail and background, which is worthy of recognition. The conclusion to the story was a bolt from the blue that I wasn't entirely sure about (the explanation especially was a bit strange), but it is at least different to the norm. Instructions were not quite as good, in particular during the final bit of fighting I was unsure what I needed to do to finish. |

The Tower of The Moon is Lord Basse's scenario which he has submitted in heaven kings Blacksmith. I know the review I am giving here is years late after his submission, but I played Lord Basse's ' The Relics of Athalen 'in the late 2020 which made me a really big fan of him . This is also a good and really good scenario of him , but , unlike the Relics of Athalen and Gwyndlegard , this isn't perfect ( Anyone is not perfect at first , and this kind of good result should be a great achievement for Basse for getting a 4.8 by just 1 review in his old campaigns. Well I know that what I going to tell next is out of the topic , but , the Relics of Athalen doesn't deserve a 5, it deserves a 💯.
100! Really! However , now let's get into details with this scenario The Tower of The Moon :
Playability: 4
The scenario playability is four, 1 mark less from 5 , ( which I'm gonna explain at last of playability) . The scenario is well modded , with special female warriors called Umarls who look like Jaguar Warriors but have the DP of a female villager. ( DP was a joke. ) The demons ,mods and the story , along with the story provide a great enjoyable experience. The campaign is a tactical one and one needs to learn hit and run etc. well to play this scenario. The cinematics are cool. Now let's talk about the negative points of the scenario for which I couldn't give a 5. BUGS Crawling , Bugs Crawling , Bugs Crawling, all bugs crawling, ruining the game ! Completely ruining the game , COMPLETELY! Yes it's COMPLETELY! Bug 1 : The woman warrior is named 4325 not used. The hero horseman on our side , is named 4326 not used. The enemy hero is named 4323 not used! Completely ruins the names and makes the story difficult to understand! Bug 2 : When the demons start creating, they never stop creating , even if they have a population of thousand and even if they have filled the full map! I was unfortunately forced to torpedo the blue enemy out. When the instructions came that the demons are going to kill our soldiers too then I had to torpedo them out too. But then I realised that the heroes were triggered to die in the campaign.... It doesn't make much of a sense , especially if the scenario is completely bugged . I didn't deduct more marks here because I don't want to deduct 2 - 3 marks only because of the bugs.
Balance: 4
The balance is good , except of the bugs. That's why, balance goes 1 mark less. It's fixed force , none of those build and destroy which people already have played thousands of time , especially in Death Matches. RPG is also good , but some is required which brings to us the Fixed Force. I liked the Umarl Warriors the most , however other soldiers were also renamed however the heroes names bugged. It has a good balnce ALSO because it's not like those HUGE vs. HUGE army battles , and it's a battle between a big and small army, but the small army ( which is you obviously) soldiers have more HP and are special. The enemy soldiers respawn everytime you kill them , no matter if you even kill them a 100 times , ( just like in the case of the archer and skirmisher dying then respawning the next moment. Good job , Basse.
Creativity: 5
The creativity was superb . Suspense, demons , noises , and the sound provided perfectly matches the scenario setting. Basse has high creativity which you can see in this scenario and especially in The Relics of Athalen. Nothing more to tell about creativity here.
Map Design: 4
Map design. Hmm. There are two problems .
No. 1: The map. It's too small for such a good campaign. The map size is very small , and provided that there is so wide range of battle , creativity, the Supernatural, the map could have been more big. The map could also then have one or two more enemies with one ally , and the ally is optional if you just make the Player 1's army more strong.
No. 2: The map could have some water , some ruins , some more cities or camps ( 1 or 2 more ) , and SOMETHING unique designed on this map which would suit this such good scenario. I'm not expecting the unique from everywhere, but as Lord Basse is an expert modder , a little unique could have been a little bit more good.
However , the settings of both the camps are perfectly placed and are designed wonderfully. From this we learn that: Whatever and how much you doesn't matter.... The amount you do should be perfect.
Story/Instructions: 5
The story is just excellent. I thought of giving a 4 here , but the story is so good , not even 1 mark can be given less from my hand, at least. SAME goes to the instructions. The story is of two warriors ( do not know their name , Umma or something perhaps, because the hero names were bugged and I couldn't know their name ) who are the two only left leaders. Opposite is another enemy leader who still has more than 1000 soldiers... Whereas you only have 72 or something, but your warriors are not like the others ... They are very special and are difficult to defeat. The enemy refuses to bring all their soldiers on the front at that time .... The enemy leader bets that until midnight , you and your base , soldiers , shall be finished and chattered into pieces. Now it's all up to you whether you can save the base or not.... perhaps by taking help?! Know the later int he scenario itself. The instructions were good , clear , explaining many things.... Very well done of them too.
Additional Comments:Overall. I would recommend ( suggest ) everyone here to play this campaign , I hope you would enjoy it if you ask Basse to share the scenario file so that you can debug the campaign yourself , else it would be more good if Basse could update it himself if he has free time , because he's very very busy creating The Shadows of Kalipirea. I wish him a best of luck for his 8- scenario campaign, may it deserve more than 150!
Overall I would like to rate this scenario a 4.2 out of 5. |
