This game is a bit on the difficult side to beat if your fairly new to the game. Seasoned players may find this a nice challange ,as the game balance leans toward unfair ,but yet, some good strategy tends to bend it back to the other side. The grammar and spelling are off a bit , but this is an asian game translated , and the authors generosity to attempt this for us english dudes is much appreciated .
PLAYABILITY : An enjoyable game with a good story and well laid out map. The instructions flash by quite fast, and takes a bit away from the fun . You gain help along the way ,and are much needed ,use them, but protect them ,as they will help you win the game. I had to retreat many times ,as i was greatly out numbered ,but there was always a place to run to,and if you position your troops right you can eliminate quite a few of your enemy in the process.
BALANCE : Personally , i would give it a 5 , because i like a hard winable game. Reallity in concideration ,, it was unbalanced. You are always outnumbered ,rushed, and forced back with many casualties. Save, and save, small defeats are important ,so ,,save often. All your key players have heal ability which helps the balance from falling too low ,and are useful when retreating ,or during light battle.
CREATIVITY : The map shows good creativity , but the game itself adds those little extras that keeps your attention. I don't want to give too much away ,but one civ (enemy) becomes predictable , mid way into the game ,which takes a lot of pressure off , as you pretty much know what to expexct when you see those camps. You gain help by hiring army ,but you have to find them first ,, and raise the money. Not unique features ,but nice add ons'.
MAP DESIGN : A well done map always adds to the game enjoyment , and this one is no exception. A nice blend of forest, fields and water, gave it a realistic feel. A little more attention could have been given to the fields ,as they were a bit plain and flat,in most spots.
STORY / INSTRUCTION :The story is provided in the game play , but instruction is a bit on the weak side ,and a little misleading . At one point you are told you can have use of boats,, they don't show up , but some trade carts do ?? The
"hints" said i would have to destroy a castle ,but i won the game without doing so. It may be possible i missed setting a trigger off ,not sure.
Notes: You may want to convert a few enemy monks if given the chance. I had three that i used to convert "plummed archers", (hint; i used my strongest unit set to "no attack", take the hits ,while the monks converted them). When you get your villagers ,there is gold to be found.
Enjoy. |
