1. You never see anyone chopping wood in the screenshots. Yet, the official sources are saying wood is in the game. Do you think it is possible that wood is chopped as needed? Maybe, when you place a building the villagers drop some trees and construct at the same time.

2. Am I the only one who has noticed the crates, boxes and barrels in many of the screen shots. Sometimes they are empty and sometimes they are full. You will notice that they are loaded in wagons and there are many at the train depot. In particular though you will notice that in this screenshot they are sitting next to a destroyed wagon. This makes it clear that the resources are being carted and then are dumped when the wagon is destroyed. Why else would they be sitting in the middle of a path?

3. Am I also the only one who has noticed the mines in this screenshot? There are at least four in the shot, but the one on the right, on the other side of the trees from the lake, is the best one to zoom in on. You can clearly see a mine car on tracks.

4. All of this indicates to me that there are all kinds of resources produced at various places. Here are some guesses: food/tobacco at farms, minerals at mines, leather at tanners, etc. None of this stuff shows up on your resources at first, but is sent back to the home city for coin or reinforcements (as we have learned in articles).

5. Trade carts have no color on them and always seem to be accompanied by troops. We have heard that there are four trade posts that can be controlled to win the game. perhaps the wagons are nuetral, but are used to gather supplies to a particular trade post. Depending on who controls the post the coin flows their way. And you must protect the wagon train.

It may be that by the age of discovery ES has decided that the old forms of resource gathering are to primitive and a much different system is employed.

I found someone chopping wood on the screenshot with the train. There's a little cart standing by it with some wood in. So my guess is that the mule takes the wood to a drop-off point when the cart is full.

About the crates and stuff you could be right and I would find it a nice enhancement over the previous series.

IF you'd bother to read, you'd know that resources go straight to your resource pile. No transportation or drop points needed.

Thanks, Xi. I think I saw your post about that, but I couldn't remember which shot it was in and couldn't find your post again.

I guess most of these shots come from scenarios where the gathering of resources is not emphasized. Something tells me though that as your econ becomes more advanced, you will not have much wood chopping going on, but more highly developed industry.

In fact, these mines may be coal mines. The coal being needed to fuel industry. It may not be a traditional resource that shows up on the bottom of the screen, but having more mines generates more coin. We're possibly getting away from a barter system to more of a monetary system.

Well, I thought that all the three recources were already announced, maybe you can collect coin not only by trade, but also by mining? Wouldn't be that odd, since it replaces gold that also was... mined in all the AOE series.

My second thought that it's just some sort of eye candy?

I don't think they are just eye candy, because they are in so many screenshots and they have obviously been dumped from the wagon when it was destroyed. Somehow, transportation of products is a key part of economy system.

Hmmm that can't be as it was my first post on this forum.

And Silk, I thought they only said that the villagers didn't have to go to drop-off points, so then it is still possible that the mule drops them off. I only said that anyway because I find it more realistic if resources get dropped off somewhere.
