Are the resources in AOE III going to pay for the units EQUIPMENT or are they going to pay for the UNIT??? Because iorn would be totally usless if you payed for the unit but if you payed for its equipment then it becomes valuble. As for stone I belive it is still needed, though walls may no longer be constructed you forget that buildings were built of stone more often. Wooden walls become more favourable (Go the palidade forts!!!!) and water.... this would be hard to manage I reckon although if you had to pay the WORKERS who construct buildings then perhaps food water and gold ould be needed (the idea is sorta from battle realms)

Maybe they should have coal, and Factories and Ships and stuff would use it a littlie at a time, like on Cossacks.

i have an diea for the water resource:
you can collect water for speed, like the units and techs are created or research faster, to a maximum of +10% faster. So, if you have a group of villagers collecting water for you, you can pass fasters than your opponents to the next age... maybe it's difficult but isn't that bad

What about resource for trading like cloth and honey and stuff to trade in the market, to civ like the Briton could trade in wool to improve. Or maybe buy a resource like cloth to trade, then sell for wool to make money

Who here is familir with K.I.S.S? If you aren't it stands for Keep It Simple Stupid and thats what I think AoE III should have resource wise. Not too simple like AoM but not too complex like EE and RoN. Dispite the large amounts of resources in cossacks it was still fairly simple. Perhaps having: Food, Wood, Stone, Iorn, Coal, Knowledge would be good. Whoever thinks favour should be in AoE III should go jump off a cliff. We aren't talking about a semi fantasy game here, we are talking about a more historical realistic based game where praying to a god had no help whatsoever apart from raising ones morale.
