How do you guys feel about the UU/UT situation? Would it be better for each civ to only have 1 UU/UT or have multiple UU? I think it would be best if civs would have 2 MAYBE 3 UU and the same amount of UT to maybe compliment the UUs. More than 3 may clutter up the game, but only 1 might rob a civ of something that should be unique to them. Or, perhaps it will be like AoE without UUs....

In AOC each of the 16 civilizations had 1/2 UU and 1/2 UT. In AOM all the units of each civilization was unique. So, I think, for eight civilizations there will be like five UU. But I don't have any ideas of UT's

To be quite honest, I believe the more uniqueness per nation the better. Some of the best RTS games out there have pitted completely different factions against one another (think such pivotal games as "Starcraft"). In all reality this is most likely not going to be the case for Age of Empires III (I realize that Starcraft only contained three races and not eight) but I still think that some measure of individuality is necessary, lest the game stagnate. Being forced to master each faction (and these factions were markedly different with radically divergent playing styles) was a primary appeal when it came to Starcraft and is largely what kept many players hooked for years upon years (and even to this very day).

I'm not suggesting a spamming of extra units ad nauseum. What I am suggesting, however, is that it would be nice to have at least slightly different stats, names, and character models for each unit across the nations. Sure, a bowman is a bowman is a bowman, but why not use the Spanish word for bowman for Spain's bowman, and give him +2 attack and -10 hp? I think these variations might just be a nice spice.

But in terms of UU...I'd say at the very least 3 per nation (please!).

If anyone here has played The Battle For Middle-Earth, I think it should be kinda like that. Isengard gets Pikemen, Gondor get Tower Guard, both basically do the same thing.

Everybody Believes Bajamba!

With only 8 civilizations, it's a certainty there will be great differences among them. They could be almost as big as they were in AOM.

There is a certain rise of nationalism during the enlightenment (15-1600s and on) period, and instead of common mercenary armies (which may explain the similarities between all of the civs is AOK) there is a real growth of national armies. I'm certain there will definately be similarities (like pikemen, and cannoneers, and even Cavalry) but the units that make the armies distinct will be prevalent. Think the French Chevalier, the British Redcoat, the Polish Hussar, the Russian Cossack, Prussian/Germanic Hessian, etc.
I'd be really surprised if 60-70% of the civilization was not unique.

Tonight we dance, for tomorrow they release the dogs.

ESO2. I'm not that great.

The Dutch (if in ofcourse) should have a WIC-ship. Actually a VOC-ship would be perfect, but since those ships only went for the east-indies it would be very unlogical to put them in the game. Those ships were commercial ships with more than decent defense capabilities.

I think that is a great idea. I think that I also like one unique unit and 1/2 unique techs for each civilization.

I would love to see 60% of the game as unique units. That would be pretty much the perfect medium between StarCraft (100% unique units/techs) and AOK (maybe 20%-30% unique units/techs).

I bet the Dutch will be in it, but if AOEIII is anything like the last AOE, I don't know how much unique ships will matter. I would suspect the Dutch would have bonuses or special techs that would help them trade and what have you with their home city.

Unique ships will probably be better that in AoK. (The cannon galleons were horrible. Weak and way too slow firing.)

I would be happy with 50-50 uniqueness, but would be satisfied with only 40% being unique.

British Redcoats
Russian Cossacks
Polish Hussars
Spanish Conquistadors

If they introduce the US in the expansion I would be surprised if they didn't include United States Minutemen and United States Ironclad...

US Ironclad was a copy of both british and french models (a total of 5 were made before the US even made one), and the US never had a major Ironclad battle (if i remember correctly, it was spain vs. austria [ausria victor] to get thei first major Ironclad battle)

Moooers are remembered, chirpers never die, splashers are invincable
