I'often noticed how "colorful" this forum is; and am wondering about the ethnic backgrounds of people here. This forum here might be very diverse; which is never a bad thing.

Precisely.

The first European settlements in North America were of the Vikings. The Vikings landed at "L'Anse Aux Meadows" in Newfoundland, centuries before Columbus.

I'd call them native americans, they didn't become indians till columbus got lost on an unknown continent! lol\

Besides it's unfair to the Indians in Indian whom get misunderstood by westerners whom think they are native american when they say "I'm Indian"

It's actually been suggested that the Chinese reached North America before Columbus, in the early 15th century...of course, that would still put them after the Vikings.

Then there are those "rumors" that an Irish monk named Brendan reached North America in the 800's, but no concrete evidence has ever been put forth to support that theory. It is almost certain, however, that as far out as Iceland was known even in Roman times; it was referred to as Ultima Thule in those days. Irish and Scottish fishermen had established settlements on Iceland before the arrival of the Vikings, so...it's within the realm of possibility that a ship may have reached Greenland. North America though? Of that, I'm a bit more skeptical.

I have even heard rumors about the Phoenicians reaching North America before the Vikings, but there is no concrete evidence for the fact.

Of course; an orca or a bottlenose dolphin, or many other species of cetacean or fish could have also swam from Europe all the way to North America .

North America didn't even exist back then... America split from Pangea many millions of years ago; but many species of animals were free to migrate between continents when there was one supercontinent, named Pangea. Of course; I was being sarcastic with animals in this case/

JameL: It is a bit true, but the the Native Australians are same kind of people, but not same people.

To easly understand, I ewill now describe the four human races (or what you will call it):

Europid: Lives in Europe, Middle Eastern, North America and some in India and South America. Have soften straight hair, some of them (like me) have blue eyes.

Negroid: Lives in Africa, have black color skin and crusaly (right?) hair.

Mongolid: People from Asia, some of them emigrated to South America and became Natives there. Have "slim" eyes.

Australid: The Native Japanese and Austalians.

Did you understand now?

Human .

ROFLMAO. Human is as much a race as it is the expression dog, cat, cow or horse.
