Okay guys

If you signed up to be on the debate squad here is a chance to tell me what you want to debate on. I'll announce the teams later.

Edit- Remember the topic should be something that can be proven one way or another.. Just so people have something back their arguments on.

The topics so far...(some by you some by me) We can vote on them if we need to.

  • cloning
  • testing on animals
  • Cell phones: Ban them while Driving?
  • Cell Phones: Cause Cancer?
  • How to deal with the threat of terrorisim?
  • Censorship (ie school newspaper) in schools
  • morality versus the common good
  • Peanut Butter: Crunchy or Creamy?

This is all, that is it.

The War in Iraq is perhaps the most over-debated topic in the world right now. If you post in the Library on a regular basis, you quickly get sick and tired of the war in Iraq, considering virtually all of the threads on the front page over there concern it.

Here's two I just thought of:

Cell phones: Are they related to cancer? Should there be laws about driving and using them?

We should debate morality versus the common good.

With all the technological advances in the study of the human body , such as DNA ,and the ever perplexing cells ,, is it still wise to beleive that we spontaniously were created from nothing ,and advanced up the ranks of apes to the state we are at now ?

Why bring the church into this ,,i mean keep it scientific. That's where the real challenge is ,taking the scientific knowledge that is now baffiling scientists worldwide , as to the awe and genius of human design, and applying a practical and reasonable possibility. This debate can be broken down into sub debates . 1st one covering the title "Intelligent designer ,or chance". If "chance" wins move to debating what could have sparked life . If "Intelligent designer" wins ,move on to "Extraterrestrial" possabilities , and so on , and so on.

This would be the most challanging of debates because of the rsearch that would be involved.

I think we'd be better off keeping evolution out for the time being. Sooner or later it will lose its scientific aspect and become more of an emotional issue. It's a good topic, but with the way we want to do this it won't work too well.

I think even though religion is one of the easist things to debate, we better keep it out of this. It cannot be proven, and even if it could, everyone would still have their own beliefs. We're all entitled to our own beliefs and let's keep it so that it stays that way. (I don't know if anyone seriously wanted to bring religion into debate anyway, but I just felt like mentioning it before we got too involved).

When do we start, Mobely?

  • Are humans born good and become "evil" as they grow or are humans born evil and develop goodness during their life?
  • Is the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands justified?
  • Is religion a primary factor of modern violence?
  • Cloning: Moral?
  • Should morality be compromised for reasons that would have a positive effect in the future?
  • Should the United States relax or even remove some of its foreign policies, especially towards Middle Eastern nations?

Just a few off the top of my head...

I have no opinion whatsoever on the following issues; and will probably not even debate on these:

Is the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands justified?

    Cloning: Moral?

Should the United States relax or even remove some of its foreign policies, especially towards Middle Eastern nations?

In addition; I hardly have any views o the other issues DM stated; I'm really only an agnostic environmentalist.

    @ nav_2004

I understand fully about keeping religon out of debates , i wouldn't participate as well. I thought it would make an interesting (thinking outside the box)debate ,from a purely scientific view.
What peaked my curiosity , was what an athiest scientist wrote in a journal. His conclusion after years of studying the human cell , was that someone designed it. Go figure .

Ok I'm glad everyone's on the same page. I think it'd be cool to look at religion from a scientific point of view too, actually. This isn't the place for it, though. And that's cool that the scientist came to that conclusion.

We might as well start this before too long. Mobely, you've taken charge so go ahead and start whenever you want to.

Can we do topics that are not serious? Topics like cloning and such involves personal beliefs and it would go nowhere.
