Alright...

I am planning on creating a system, which is purely experimental for now, and I would like to see how it goes. Basically, I post a link to a quiz or a survey, and you should post your results after my link. I will keep the link active for around 1 or 2 days; in which you are free to post in the thread stating your results for fun. Afterwards, I will post a new link to another quiz or survey that I find somewhere on the Internet, and will subject you to that particular link. The purpose of this thread is to provide forumers with a place to quiz themselves on something if they find themselves bored and would like to waste some time on some fun quizzes or surveys (I wouldn't veen say that some of the quizzes are a waste of time either; as many are tests on educational content). So, let the tournament begin! No cheating; and good luck!

Btw, I will compile a list of all of the quizzes so that one whom does not actively participate will find many links to quiz themselves on while spending some time when they're bored. Oh, and by the way, you are free to discuss the questions you are dubious about, but please don't look at the discussions until after you've taken the quiz.

-----------

The current quiz is located at...

http://www.funtrivia.com/quizdetails.cfm?id=26887&origin=7372

List of Quizzes:

April 15th, 2003: http://www.glencoe.com/qe/science.php?qi=376

April 16th, 2003:http://www.glencoe.com/qe/science.php?qi=352

April 17th, 2003: http://www.funtrivia.com/quizdetails.cfm?id=26887&origin=7372

April 18th quiz was way too difficult for nearly all..

April 19th, 2003: http://funtrivia.com/quizdetails.cfm?id=784&origin=139

By the way; if you can show me any great quiz sites; then please sho me it. The quiz, however, must contain at least 15 questions; and should appeal to our audience here.

After the quiz session for a particular quiz is over, then you can be free to discuss answers with each other on the previous quiz. This doesn't necessarily apply to surveys though; such as the surveys you may find on theSpark.com; you can discuss results by taking surveys off that site though.

Simfish is the same age as RoboPaul and you, zyxomma. You should be ashamed (or Simfish should be proud).

Either way, it's all good.

I saw that post, Darkmaster. Tom Edwards... didn't expect him to come in suddenly.

Simfish should be proud... Our school is so stupid... Even the advanced classes haven't touched this.

My school is stupid too; you need to realize the power of self-education as well as education outside of your school curriculum. My science teacher did personally teach me a little about this topic though; outside of the curriculum in my class.

As for being proud; I'm the same age as Frogdude as well; and I'm sure he'll get 100%.. At least I'm better than people outside of my class (Most of my classmates aren't the brightest and don't know anything outside their school curriculum).

I'm not so proud though; I'm in the 8th grade highly capable math program and I still don't know how to solve a quadratic equation. My schoolwill cover them in the 9th grade highly capable program; but quadratic equations are really 9th grade regular math; and my school's math program is behind. I should already know how o solve a quadratic equation; and it's darn hard to teach yourself how to solve a quadratic equation.

The same situation plagues the Ontario School Curriculum. Quadratic Equations, parabolas, trigonometry...all are saved up for ninth grade. It would be so much better if they started teaching (at least basic trigonometry) in the 5th or 6th grade.

It is quite difficult to build a foundation for mathematics in high school, unless you are tutored, self-educated, from a private school (or home schooled), or if you're from a non-North American school (most people, especially from Eastern Europe, Far East, and South Asia are especially diligent in the sciences and mathematics).

I, being a lazy person, have not sought out extra study programs in the sciences and/or math, in school or otherwise.

That quiz wasn't too hard for me, but I took all this in school last semester, and I knew a lot of it before-hand too.

Simfish - sorry to hear about that. Does your school offer AP or IB programs? You should definitely try and get into them if it does.

I could've been in an AP Calculus class this year (Grade 11), but the school's priorities put Grade 12 students before me.

I might try for AP English and/or Calculus (again), next year, though. My school also offers AP Physics, but I think AP Calculus is enough.

Schools cater to the slow kids. They want their students to succeed, so they can't have curriculum that is above the level of the dumbest kid

The local high school has an IB program that I can take, and I am planning on taking Pre-IB starting at the 10th grade. Sadly, I'm in a junior high, so I'll have to be taking half-decent classes int he 9th grade as well.

My school's goals include the fact that all students can suceed, and has nothing about extending the capabilities of gifted students. The curriculum is poor, and the classes are extremely slow; and I am much more intelligent than most of my peers. it's at http://njhweb.nsd.org . I wished I still lived in CO, where I had a better school.

High schools are getting a little better. My school offers advanced mathamatics courses by distance education, but that is the extent of it.

School via the internet? Yup, it's fun sometimes.

that wasn't all that hard I got 20 of 20 correct. I guessed on a couple though
My school has a messed up science program and teachers. Last year (7th grade) We studied Chemestry all year long(And I still can't spell it ) this year we're studying Biology all year long (booring) I learnt all that stuff in shop (wierd hu?) We do tech shop and I got electric something or other for 2 weeks (boooring)
But I learnt most of it from books...
EO: I'm in 8th too!

Quadratics Equations are easy to solve if you know algebra. My math teacher taught it to me in grade 6(seriously). It's sad that schools have to go at the pace of slower learning students. I believe in Alberta you're not allowed to skip grades anymore.

Yeah, I hate all the stupid kids (no offence), but when you know the material after like 2-3 mins and the rest of the kids still need another 10 to 20 it gets boring. And im in honors

At least your school seems to be better than mine; which has no highly capable Science program until the High School; and is very slow considering that you have many "stupid" students in it. I'll have to agree with the Adder in hating those stupid kids; urgh; they just have to slow down my performance so much.

Of course; teachers could teach you about things past the curriculum, but it depends on the teacher..

I do know algebra; but the quadratic equation still intimidates me. You will need to know the FOIL method clearly first though; and I haven't completely mastered the FOIL method yet (My school hasn't even taught it in 8th grade highly capable math; which is basically math a year ahead).
